We talk about the Outrage Industry and why we are the way we are.
The Outrage Industry (The News Media)
Outrage Archeology (Digging Up One's Past To Cancel Them)
The media is less trustworthy than politicians and lawyers
Has the news media always been focused on riling people up over the truth?
Why are we so interested in presenting misery? That's what Oprah used to be like until they switched to a more positive tone.
Both the news media and social media are engaged in a bid to outrage us as much as possible. The more outrage, the more clicks and the more money they make.
They are driving people into a frenzy, and some people have committed suicide; others need therapy, and some have been forced to insanity.
We never see the reality - we always see what will outrage us the most.
Does this trigger our stress hormones? Maybe the news is also contributing to our obesity?
Do the people on the right know what their limits are?
Are we in the middle of a civil war?
What do the protestors want? There seems to be no plan other than tearing the whole system down.
They want the ability to be able to surveil Americans.
The Patriot Act was a surveillance tool for Americans.
Are these crises being created to trigger social change?
The Overton Window is being expanded.
Facts are not just being manipulated; they are now being discarded.
Is it because the news media simply can't keep up with citizen journalism. They don't bother to fact-check anything anymore because they are not in the "news" business anymore, they are in the Outrage business.
How do we fight back against this and other than to just disconnect ourselves from it because it's so toxic?
If you are Outraged - they win.
Outrage Archeology: finding something in someone's past, which was OK at the time, but not OK now. The problem is, you go back far enough, then everyone has done something wrong. No one is immune to this - the longer you have been around, the more likely that something can be found. For example, blackface.
John Wayne is also being canceled. You can't judge the past with the lens of today. History is there to be learned from, not eliminated.
Nothing is ever deleted.
You are not the same person that you were, where you did those things. If people can be canceled because of something that they did in another time is applied to the standards of today, then everyone is cancelable.
Why do people talk about denying science as they deny science (namely biology and physics)
Humans are gender-fluid as we all contain both male and female hormones, even though we have specific "hardware."
To de-stress, you need to step away from the news and go into the natural world.
Without peer-pressure and school teachers enabling, many students who were "transitioning" are now moving back. Lockdown is helping them to understand who they are.
Maybe we need to send people to "learn how to live on your own" camp?
Why do people think that capitalism is bad? It's always the same argument (real socialism has never been tried)
Why did John Kerry go to Antarctica on Election Eve 2016?
