Welcome to your audiobook for February 2024. This month, the book club has voted to read The Division Bell Mystery by Ellen Wilkinson for Lesser Known Authors month. To complement this book club choice, here is a story from an author that is very well-known amongst our audiobook listeners: "The Golden Slipper." It is the titular story of Green's collection, The Golden Slipper and Other Problems for Violet Strange. The collection was originally published in 1915.
In this story, numerous thefts are leaving everyone puzzled, particularly because these items are eventually returned. Young “girl detective” Violet Strange has been asked to clear the name of a young woman and find the true thief.

After listening, if you'd like to discuss these stories with other members or make suggestions for me to record in the future, head over to the audiobook club area of the forum to do that.

This is the Shedunnit Book Club companion episode for January 2024, in which we are reading The Man in the Brown Suit by Agatha Christie. There are no major spoilers in this primer, but if you'd rather read the book with no knowledge of its plot or structure at all, I'd recommend listening only once you've finished reading. I’ll see you in the Shedunnit forum for our fully spoilered discussion thread on 31st January.

Welcome to your audiobook for January 2024. This month, the book club has voted to read Agatha Christie’s The Man in the Brown Suit to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its publication, and in similar fashion the story I am reading to you is G.K. Chesterton’s “The Oracle of the Dog,” first published in Nash's Magazine in December 1923.
The mystery involves the murder of the wealthy Colonel Druce in his garden. The conundrum is that the murdered man was apparently being watched by multiple people at the time of his death, yet nobody saw him being killed. The most important witness to the crime, however, is the dog.
If you enjoy this story, then I recommend you have a listen, or re-listen, to The Detective’s Best Friend episode, which discusses the relationship between dogs and crime fiction. You might also be interested to revisit a previous audiobook, "The Adventure of the Creeping Man" by Arthur Conan Doyle.
After listening, if you'd like to discuss these stories with other members or make suggestions for me to record in the future, head over to the audiobook club area of the forum to do that.

Renée read her first detective novel in the 1930s. She hasn’t stopped since.
This archive episode of Shedunnit (my personal favourite of all the ones I've ever made) was first published on 2nd September 2020.
You can read Renée's obituary here. Her crime novels, The Wild Card and Blood Matters, are available from all good booksellers.

As promised, this bonus episode provides a complete breakdown of fascinating trends involving the book club's voting polls and short list results. Leandra and I discuss these findings and how they will impact the Shedunnit Book Club in 2024, if at all.
If you would like to read through the findings before, after, or as you listen to our discussion, you can find them in this bonus episode forum thread.
Caroline and Guy discuss The Box of Delights by John Masefield, a beloved children's book from 1935 that might actually be a golden age detective novel too.
