  • Audiobook: The Affair of the Corridor Express by Victor L. Whitechurch

Welcome to your audiobook for May 2024. Although the Book Club’s "railway" month isn’t until July, but I thought there was no harm getting us in the mood a bit early with a train-based short story, so this month I am reading for you "The Affair of the Corridor Express" by Victor L. Whitechurch. After magazine publication, it first appeared in a 1912 book titled Thrilling Stories of the Railway, and then was subsequently collected in the British Library volume Blood on the Tracks: Railway Mysteries. It features Whitechurch's singular "railway detective" Thorpe Hazell, who combines an encyclopaedic knowledge of Britain's train system with some peculiar Edwardian health and "wellness" habits.

Listen to me read more of Thorpe Hazell's adventures:

    • How The Bank Was Saved
    • Peter Crane's Cigars
