Old Gamer’s Almanac

We're too excited for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. But more importantly, we haven't been sure what to do when the game comes out because it might be a large amount of time before we've all played the game to completion and we don't want to keep you all waiting! Thankfully, SquareEnix put out a demo of the game and we can talk about some first impressions! Hunter and Sun have already played it and have a lot to say, as well as general speculation about the "Switch 2."

Full spoilers for the entire game this week as Hunter and Sun sit down for a conversation about how much they love this controversial 2020 title remastered for the Playstation 5. Haters beware! Discussion of the original game will follow shortly as a patron only bonus episode. This episode had some audio problems that we had to make peace with so think of it as a simulation of the way this game makes you feel which is pretty rough. Also the first half hour is mostly us talking about last week's State of Play event so check that out if you don't like this game!

It's been a long time since we've had a chance to talk about the blue hedgehog. And on this show we really have never even talked about the "good" Sonic games, so consider this episode LONG overdue. You can join our Patreon to hear a bonus episode about Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but this is the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, so we've got to talk about the game that introduced us to Knuckles before we get to play AS him later this year!

NINJA PODCAST! This week we're celebrating the 30th Anniversary of THE NINJA WARRIORS. Sneaky vibes on this one as we punch, jump, and crouch our way through a conversation-duel over this SNES underappreciated classic. Don't like it? Beat-Us-Up.

That's right! We still do episodes where talk about one game for over an hour. We even talk about the List in this one! Join us as we begin the true process of exploring a 30th anniversary retrospective of the games on 1994. Mega Man X released in North America on January 19, 1994 to a significant amount of anticipation. A renowned series on NES, this was it's long awaited 16-bit upgrade! Let's see what people at the time had to say and discuss how it feels to play in 2024.

The "Full Panel" is here to get excited for our 2024 season looking at both this year and 30 years ago. This week we look through all of the releases of 1994 as well as the supposed releases of 2024 and talk about what we're most excited to play.

It's a new year and time to come up with an entirely new focus for the show. We've approached a lot of old eras or consoles over the past couple of years but something we've enjoyed doing and want to do more of is investing time in reading old journalism about the era we're discussing. For 2024, alongside trying to keep up with our most anticipated new releases, we'll be walking through the year 1994 and treating it like all of those games are releasing for the first time again. We'll dig up old reviews, talk about cultural moments, and in general try to imagine what it was like to be a part of the gaming zeitgeist in 1994. It's a big journey and we hope you'll come hang out and contribute!

We've been playing Gameboy games for many months now and it's time to put all of that work to use. We recently nominated 16 Gameboy games to go head to head and today we crown a champion. Strap in folks, it's going to take a while...

There's a new project that recently kicked off giving people the opportunity to relive the glory days of early Everquest. Hunter was a big fan of this game during exactly that time and it seemed like a great chance to explain what this old MMO is all about and how we as a community might all want to get involved in it together!

"The Full Panel" is busy playing Gameboy games, but Hunter's also been working through 2023 releases and wanted to take the time to talk about Spider-Man 2 with OGA's chief comic book correspondent Jamie Carbone. It's time to dig up some deep Marvel lore and talk about the best Spider-Man villains.
