Most of us have experienced some form of trauma in our lifetime, which can be a one-time event such as a car accident, or repeated trauma that occurs for months or years. However for many, trauma is deeply rooted in childhood events.
While throughout life we become physically and psychologically vulnerable, those who have experienced trauma can equate being emotionally vulnerable as a threat to our safety and security. Holding tightly onto control, the fear of emotional exposure brings up feelings that we may not be willing to face.
In this week's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Sara. She found herself falling off of her recovery routine due to the pandemic and life events. Overwhelmed by things she can't control, she doesn't let those get overly close to her. Equating vulnerability to a decrease in safety, she feels it's easier to handle everything on her own.

Some of us who have rigid standards and don't adapt well to change can throw around the word "control freak". Where does this behavior stem from? The idea of being in control means you can set benchmarks, tasks, objectives and unrealistic expectations of yourself. However, with unrealistic expectations comes the idea of striving for perfection, and what closely follows behind is failure.
In this week's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Tori. Struggling with letting go of her perfectionistic ways; her unrealistic expectations of herself have created opportunities to fail and not accept responsibility. By playing the role of the victim, Tori has learned how to set herself up for an endless cycle of self-sabotage. The group also helped Katie. With a few weeks sober, she wants to quit drinking due to health reasons, but finds her new found sobriety disconnects her from her family.

Why is it that so many of us on the path of recovery find ourselves reverting back to old ways without even realizing how we got there, ultimately not fulfilling our purpose.
The chaos can be comfortable, self-destruction can be familiar, and it's what we know. In addiction, we may have felt that our negative consequences were justified by our bad behavior. We deserved the misery. We deserved the pain. We deserved to be miserable, alone, and afraid.
When we enter the world of recovery, we don't just stop thinking this way. It takes time. When we get overwhelmed with life in recovery, we can hear these same messages we used to tell ourselves and resort back to old ways of thinking, leading to a downward spiral.
In this week's Recovery Coaching call, the group helped Amber. Angry, bitter, and overwhelmed, and newly sober, she reached a point where she sat at the liquor store in contemplation of drinking again. The group helps Amber untangle her limiting beliefs by recognizing the hatred she has towards herself and understanding the roles she's played in relationships with her Father and Husband; where she begins to ultimately heal her 17 year old self to become confident in the person she is today.
Listen in to learn why you need to forgive yourself and let go of the need to fulfill others' expectations of you.

If you've suffered from addiction, trauma, or have been hurt and betrayed, an automatic and natural response to feel bitter, distrust, anger, or resentment. However, when we hold onto the negativity, hurts and fail to heal, they can manifest in other areas of our life, keeping us stuck and providing secondary gains to benefit us or protect us in some way.
In this week's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Kris. With 13 days sober, Kris is resentful and bitter towards her husband, and believes they have grown apart. With trust issues from childhood trauma, the group helps Kris discover that these thoughts and feelings of anger have helped protect her and kept her isolated for years, providing secondary gains to self-sabotage, hold onto her addiction, and create a cycle of distrust with everyone that surrounds her.

What would happen if you stopped carrying the weight of the guilt and shame of your past?
Would you feel happier, self-sabotage less? Would you allow yourself to be joyful with no expectations?
For those who have experienced hurt, betrayal, and loss, there's a deep understanding of what it means to have your joy taken from you in a split second. In this week's Recovery Coaching call, the group helped Shannon. Feeling like she is undeserving of happiness, for years, she's struggled with the aftereffects of her Father's death and her mother's betrayal. Recently getting sober and having young children, the moment she begins to feel joy and move towards it, the survival mechanisms she had once used to protect herself and no longer serve her.

It's normal to care about what others think and worry about how our decisions will impact them, but once we allow the fear of disappointment to take over, we're simply hitting our own head against the wall.
Somewhere along the way, we've seemed to glorify this fear to mean that we care. However, the fear of disappointing others can be a powerful negative emotion that can eat away at our happiness, our passions, and even create resentment. In this week's Recovery Coaching Call, the group helped Corey. Going back to work after time unemployed, she's taken a new job that requires her to be away from home traveling. Feeling pressure and overwhelm, her main decision of staying in this position is the fear of disappointing her husband.
When we find we do things out of the fear of disappointment, we also become at risk of bitterness, resentment, and anger, which can quickly lead to relapse.

Accountability is understanding that our life decisions impact us and everyone around us. In addiction recovery, accountability is untangling mental and emotional patterns that have been rooted within our innate nature for years or even decades. Establishing accountability in recovery takes time and patience.
In this weeks Recovery Coaching call the group helped Shelley. Nearing the end of her probation, she finds herself having reservations about using now that she's no longer accountable with drug testing. The group also helped Sonia. From a habitual marijuana habit to gaining sobriety, and now going back to school, she's fearful she will fail and disappoint herself in continuing a cycle of never finishing what she starts.
Often, we allow our thoughts, feelings, and emotions to overwhelm us. If we allow these emotions to serve as our internal guidance system, they begin to tell us what to do next. When we're fearful we're going to fail, we show up, thank the fear, and allow others to hold space and guide our next moves.
