We all have unrealistic expectations. What are yours?
These expectations can chip away at relationships, keep us from reaching our goals, and create unhealthy patterns and behaviors in our lives. When we or someone else falls short, we draw false conclusions, and if we're not careful, unrealistic expectations can lead to resentment.
So how do we relinquish unrealistic expectations? In this Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Travis. Coming to terms about his unrealistic expectations in regards to his alcoholic father, Travis's anger and resentment has caused him to create distance until he gets stronger in his own sobriety.
The group also helped Simon. Navigating the world as an empath, Simon asks the group for help with connecting to his feelings in front of people, bringing down his walls, and becoming vulnerable. As empaths, when we realize how sensitive we are, we avoid people, situations, and can lose trust with ourselves and our peers.

Most times, when we're presented with struggles, it's an opportunity for us to learn. Just coming back from a relapse, Stephanie feels lonely, stressed, and not good enough. For years, living at home with alcoholic family members, her idea of love from her family was transactional and limited. For years, the sense of loneliness caused her to comfort herself with drugs and alcohol when nobody else was able to.
In today's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helps Stephanie learn to begin the process of trusting herself to learn how to re-parent and find empowerment within her own life. When we find ourselves alone, scared, and isolated, we teach ourselves how to survive with maladaptive coping mechanisms because it's the only choice we have. When these tools stop working, we must reach out, learn how to accept help, and begin the work to access the empowerment we all have within.

Whether you have a loved one that is sober, in recovery yourself, or are watching someone struggle with addiction, one of the biggest components of recovery is learning how to support and restore our relationships with our loved ones. The best way for us to be there and help others is to ultimately work on ourselves.
In today's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Wendy. In recovery herself, her children have also struggled with addiction. Now that her children are grown and have moved out of the house, she feels a combination of emptiness and guilt. What was once days filled with school, extracurricular activities, and carpooling, are now days of emptiness and sadness in acknowledgement that her primary purpose as a mother is not what it once was. Wendy also feels guilt regarding her children's addiction issues and doesn't feel "good enough," as a mother and feels the need to compensate by using control out of fear.
The Recovery Coaching group took Wendy back to childhood to a place when she began being self-critical. What was once a silent message of not feeling, "good enough," became a journey of turning into someone she thought she should be for her mother, father, and family, ultimately, abandoning herself.

In early sobriety, it's common to experience cravings. No matter if it's cravings for alcohol, drugs, or food, it's likely that we've all experienced them, and even more likely we'll experience them again.
However, what exactly does having a craving mean? In the same sense that most of us used drugs, alcohol, or other mind-altering substances, when we experience cravings, we can ask ourselves if we're trying to soothe, numb, or escape an uncomfortable situation or event in our present or past lives.
In this week's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Travis. Dealing with cravings for food and video games, he finds himself uncomfortable in his sobriety while trusting the process of recovery. The coaching group guides him back to a significant event in childhood when he first felt abandoned and betrayed by his parents and put his trust in substances. Finding himself escaping the uncomfortability of putting trust in the recovery process, the group guides him through an exercise to begin working on these negative patterns to ultimately seek freedom and find purpose.

When we get sober, and begin to find ourselves again, it can be common to ask ourselves, "what am I doing this for?"
We're told that if we follow all the necessary steps, we'll remain sober and find a life beyond our "wildest dreams." However, for some, we make it to the other side and the grass is still brown. Instead of the pink cloud we so often hear about, a rain cloud follows us around and we become miserable.
How to we get ourselves here? How do we find happiness, fulfillment, and joy?
In this week's Recovery Coaching call, the group helped Matt. Finding himself unfulfilled and depressed, he's become stuck in the grips of self-centered fear. The group gives Matt practical tools to begin removing himself from this self-centered fear and start becoming more of service to others.
When we begin to short ourselves of what we're capable of doing and the help we're able to give, we lose a sense of purpose. Once we begin adding value to the world, we can begin to get out of the self-centered fear and begin to find happiness, fulfillment, and joy.

Have you ever felt so desperate to move forward with your life but find yourself getting in your own way?
We have ideas to bring to life, stories to tell, and goals to achieve, yet, the internal conflict within us prevents us from even starting. When we get into our own way, it's caused by limitations and limiting beliefs that prevent us from moving forward.
Some of us can't get past the fear of failure. Some of us struggle with a nagging sense of inadequacy. Others feel pressure from feeling insignificant and feel powerless, and some may have a tendency to procrastinate.

Learning how to self-soothe is just as important for us as adults as it is as children. As a child, we learn how to self-soothe when we feel anxious, sad, disappointed, and insignificant. However, when we experience childhood trauma, the self-soothing we learn can become maladaptive.
In this week's Recovery Coaching session the group helped, Sean. After a recent relapse, Sean admits his relapse behavior was sneaky and immature, close to a childlike state.
As he begins to process the reason for his slip, he reflects on the dynamics of his family of origin and the childhood experiences he had. Feeling insignificant by one of the most important people in his life, it caused Sean to seek love and connection in any form, including substances.
When we learn to recognize specific patterns in our life, we can work towards finding alternative behaviors and begin to put them into practice. In this week's Recovery Coaching session, you'll learn:
