"If you knew me, you would hate me too."
How many of us have had similar self-deprecating thoughts? If we continually speak about ourselves in a manner that puts us down, over time, they become a part of how we view ourselves and severely impacts our self-esteem. Self-depreciation isn't just telling ourselves we're at fault. It's also undermining our own authority, silencing ourselves in favor of others, and tormenting ourselves over mistakes that don't matter.
How Self-Deprecation Can Serve Us
There's a point when we find secondary gains from self-deprecation and they begin to serve us. Whether that be to keep us safe from failure or as a way to protect us from danger, when we continue to practice self-hatred, the burdens in our day-to-day lives get heavier and it creates more difficulty for ourselves to continue moving forward. At times, these thought patterns create safety and assurance because the fear of moving forward can often be too crippling.
Though, while we can't always control these thought patterns, we can control what we do with them.
In today's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, the group helped Leo. Struggling with self-hatred thoughts around his own recovery coaching, he processes the way his self-loathing has been protecting him for the past 44 years and walks through actionable steps on how to find self-empowerment and unlock his full potential.

When we struggle with alcoholism, drug addiction, or any other behavioral health disorder, unmanageability follows closely behind - even when we decide to put the drugs or alcohol down and get sober.
When we find a solid foundation of sobriety, our personal wants, hopes, and dreams can become clouded by either making up for lost time, or doing what others expect of us. When we get lost in this illusion of other's expectations, we can lose productivity and feel guilty for taking time for ourselves. The basic questions of who we are and what we want becomes unclear.
By creating realistic goals, objectives, and daily routines, we can change how we feel, what we do, and the entire trajectory of our lives.
In this week's Omar Pinto Coaching podcast, Omar helped Travis. Feeling more productive after implementing self-care into his routine, he must learn to effectively communicate with his loved ones surrounding the path he is on and convey that his progress and productivity may not be aligned with their expectations.
Omar also helped Colleen. Newly sober, she feels guilty for taking time for herself and is fearful of who she will become after taking the journey within. The group holds space for Colleen and gives her feedback to look into her past, to create a future she can be excited about.

Hopelessness isn't a state that we expect to be in after we get sober.
When we feel hopeless, we suffer physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. While many alcoholics and addicts are familiar with these feelings in addiction, it can be confusing when we experience it in sobriety. Often, there are moments when it feels like hopelessness weighs so much more than peace and joy, lasts so much longer, and it can be difficult to discern why we're experiencing these emotions.
In this week's Recovery Coaching Call we helped Matt. A year and a half into his sobriety, he is experiencing Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which he thought was behind him. Having trouble seeing life beyond his OCD, he doesn't believe that it's going to get better. He asks the Recovery Coaching Group for support. Does he continue to fight through it? Or accept these feelings as his new way of life?
The group also helped Travis. Still healing from addiction, Travis is struggling with building a routine, and finding discipline. The group supports him in taking actionable steps to create structure in his day while pursuing his passions and keeping recovery a priority.

How many of us have heard the phrase, 'Wherever you go, there you are?"
Many of us can find ourselves running to an idea of happiness - material wealth, or financial success - without ever finding it. In reality, happiness is something we must find within ourselves. The group takes Tori back to a time in her life when she first felt alone - in childhood. Decades later, she forgot that she can make choices for herself, and has found herself stuck under the weight of others expectations, other than creating a life for herself that she actually wants.

No matter what age you are, we can all get stagnant. However, stagnancy can lead to boredom, and if we're not careful, boredom can lead to trouble. In today's Omar Pinto Coaching Podcast, Stacey Godbold, Marketing Guru, Strategist, Visionary and Storyteller shares some incredible insight on where she's been and how she got to where she is today.
From a young age, Stacey admits she did everything "alcoholically." As a runner, she spent all her time immersed in her sport, which later took a backseat during her addiction. Years later after she got sober, she began powerlifting and found a community in CrossFit. Little did she know the values she learned in the CrossFit community would come to use years later. Through losing a career, playing the critic, the teacher, Stacey notes the moments in her life where everything crumbled ultimately led her to being a student of life and asking the important "why's."
Why do I keep doing the same old thing?
Stacey had to get to the root cause of why she had to fill her God-shaped hole with distractions, but when we start to feel bored, and pain, it's an invitation for us to grow, by allowing ourselves to be guided by an external force to give and receive.
Through giving and receiving, the journey of life lands with the knowledge and recognition of who you are. And once we get there, it's time for us to take that information and transition, evolve, and grow.
What You Will Discover: [1:45] Finding your value beyond external things through life's trials. [10:00] Learning to show up for yourself by letting go of the negativity and toxicity in your life. [18:16] How to do and be who you're supposed to be without criticizing others. [23:33] The importance of understanding your addiction by learning about it. [30:07] The fun in being a perfectly imperfect human that uses their mistakes and failures to inspire and motivate others. [41:29] Make a list of things that don't build you and a plan for those that will help you in your recovery journey. [50:22] Learn to listen to your intuition and trusting yourself to find your way after you fall.Stacey Godbold is a student living in gratitude, sober mom of four, athlete and continues to manifest positive things in her life.
