Julia is a New Teacher Support Specialist, MindBodyHeart Coach, and Founder of Breathe from the Heart LLC. Julia is also a certified meditation teacher, health and life coach, mindfulness educator, and mind-body therapy practitioner. She received her masterās degree in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Julia Yu went into teaching to become a positive force in the world. But after suffering from chronic stress, the emotional, mental, and physical toll led her to burnout.
She eventually took the lessons she learned and created a heart-centered community for educators who are open to seeing meditation, centering, and compassion practices as a powerful way of building compassionate presence and creating more heart-centered classrooms.
More recently Julia published a book called The Centered Teacher and created a professional development series to guide and support new teachers on an empowering journey.
Julia loves creating programs that strengthen the mind-body-heart connection. She believes that tapping into the intelligence that lives inside of us allows us to transform our inner and outer landscape, so we can see life as a gift full of wonderful possibilities.

On Being Grateful for Accessing Stillness
Have you noticed that when you are present in the now with a feeling of gratitude, you tap into this peaceful feeling of stillness?
Our lives are full of things to be grateful for. This monthās podcast series has been on Holistic Wellness. This theme has allowed me to reflect on the concept of how or what makes me feel whole.
And on this Thanksgiving Day, I started my day acknowledging the simple and even silly things that I am immensely grateful for that make my body-mind-and soul feel whole and alive. For example, upon waking up today I felt grateful for my ability to wiggle my toes, stretch my limbs, and connect to my breath.
Each morning I have a āsadhanaā - a Sanskrit word for āspiritual routineā...my routine is grounded in a variety of mindfulness practices that includes a long meditation. I am grateful for these practices as it gives me the ability to feel whole.
I am so grateful for this routine as it allows me to start my day with intention and allows me to get centered, and most importantly feel stillness.
How often do we forget the immense value in feeling still?
Iāll be honest, it's taken me years to learn to slow down, and truly access stillnessā¦.
Meditation is such a gift, as it brings awareness to my consciousness that each of us has the ability to access stillness...
In honor of Holistic Wellness and Thanksgiving, I am sharing a short guided meditation intended to help you bring awareness to the feeling of gratitude, and help you access stillness in the present moment.

[Correction: In our intro, we mistakenly mention Chernobyl as Lena's native town from Russia, when in fact she is from Zhitomir, Russia]
From fleeing Zhitomir Russia, as a young girl to Corporate Executive, Lenaās journey is a story of grit and resilience.
At the tender age of 2, during the heat of communism in Russia, Lena and her family lived behind a closet in a one-bedroom apartment issued by the government.
At the age of 3, Lena and her family are forced to escape her hometown of Zhitomir because of the poisonous gases.
By the time she is 7, Lena flees Russia with her parents and two sets of elderly grandparents without a dollar to their name and no worldly possessions. Escaping to the US as refugees in pursuit of a better life.
This young girl goes on pushing through all obstacles, translating for her family, growing, learning, prevailing against all odds. Never giving up and pulling her family and loved ones along with her with a heart of light and gratitude.
Lena is now a technology leader, a corporate executive director of the technology enablement vertical at TEKsystems, a mother of two increĆble children, a wife to an amazing man, someone who uses her voice to help those around her, even when sheās tired.
Lena encourages others to know that YOU are enough and nothing is impossible with a light heart, persistence, and humor. This life is meant to be lived and we are all here for a reason so letās.
Live. Do. Be.

Denise ((bonaimo)) Sarram was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, and on the New Jersey shore. Ā She relocated to Southern California in 2001 where she lives with her husband and son.
A graduate from Rowan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and specializing in metalsmithing and jewelry making, Denise also studied foundation art at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia and spent an adventurous semester abroad traveling around Great Britain and taking college courses at Northumbria University in England.
Deniseās art assemblages and jewelry designs are thoughtfully executed with an artful eye, skillful hand, and heartfelt intentions. She is immensely grateful to have been immersed in a career creating, exhibiting, and teaching art and has also been instrumental in the local community to foster an environment of creative enrichment for various organizations for the last 25 years.
Focusing on jewelry design for many years, she has always approached it as āsmall scale sculptureā so making the shift towards larger-scale sculptural assemblage art was a natural progression. She bolts, drills, glues, collages, paints, sands, saws, molds, bends, sews, wire wraps, and forges the various parts of her designs to achieve a work of art that is both masterfully crafted and aesthetically intriguing.
Denise works on multiple works of art simultaneously, using elements from her extensive collection of found objects which she forages from thrift stores, antique stores, and resale shops. Throughout her entire career, there has been a theme of upcycling (which is the process of converting waste materials or cast-away objects into something of intrinsic, aesthetic, or practical value).
The theme of her current body of artwork orbits around her Sicilian familyās immigrant experiences in America and their journeys across the sea. Her pieces show the resilience of her people and thatās why she is a perfect fit for our theme of the month: Resilience.
