At the height of the famine in 1848, around 4,000 people in Dungarvan were housed in the local Workhouse system. A book co-written in the 1990s details all this. One of the authors was Willie Whelan and he's had it re-published on Amazon. He spoke to Mary "On the Fringe."

Sean had been invited over to take part in the prestigious LEAF festival in the United States, but little did he know what lay ahead as he tried to get home. He spoke to me about that, and about the fact that he was self isolating at his home, the location of The Art Hand on The Copper Coast.
