  • 52. What's Missing?
Have you ever presented a new concept to your team in a meeting and watched everyone stare back at you without saying much or nod along to everything you’re saying without offering any other feedback? It’s up to the leader to encourage the group to offer their insights—including when team members don’t agree. This takes proactive effort.
This episode provides tips on how to infuse the “What’s missing?” technique into your team dialogue to create the best possible solutions together.
Your One Bold Move: Ask your team members, “What’s missing?”. I’ve made this a practice for whenever I present plans or share information. It’s an invitation to team members to join the dialogue—and it’s led to meaningful innovation and trust. If you try this at work, I’d love to hear how it goes for you.

  • 51. Cheer on Other Women
Someone else’s success does not diminish yours in any way.
Be the woman who cheers on other women, because this makes us all stronger. It is your responsibility to create the world for others that you might have hoped for yourself.
Your One Bold Move: Keep putting yourself out there for significant opportunities. Do this because you believe in your heart you’re meant for something bigger and you understand it may not happen as you planned. In the face of rejection, ask yourself what you’ll offer the world next. In the meantime, cheer on other women’s success, too.

  • 49. Focus on What You Can Control
Sometimes you choose change, such as taking a new job or moving to a new city. Other times, changes happen in your environment and require your response.
Whether your change is moving for your partner’s career, getting a new manager, or dealing with an unexpected challenge, it can be so hard to understand the value of change when it doesn’t align with what you have in mind.
Then, of course, there’s what we are facing right now. This is haaaaard. Nothing is going as planned, information changes by the minute, and we are tired. At moments it feels like nothing makes sense.
This episode provides tips on how to focus on what you can control, including the importance of how you talk to yourself.
Your One Bold Move: Focus on what you can control and make those things great. Let go of the rest—at least to allow yourself peace for a bit. How can you best approach this right now?

  • 47. Work is Personal
You’ve heard it all before, “It’s business, not personal” or “Don’t take that personally”. These statements have always ranked high in the business jargon pet peeve list for meIt’s basically the business version of “No offense.” When you invest in your work, and yourself, it’s personal.
This episode shares why I take my work personally and here’s why you should consider doing the same thing, if you want to relate more to your team members, produce your best work, and create a more inclusive organization.
Your One Bold Move: Consider how work is personal for you and how that makes you more deeply engaged with what you do. If you’re a manager, create an environment where your team feels connected to their work and each other.

  • 46. Yes, And
Many years ago, I took a leadership development course that incorporated improv into our training. It was fascinating to learn how an acting technique could improve working relationships and my leadership style, and yet it makes so much sense. Managers have to learn to navigate through unexpected challenges and make decisions to move the company forward, while engaging others in the process and vision.
The instructor introduced the concept of “Yes, and” where you build on whatever was said prior in the conversation. It is both a chance to move something toward the positive and build on what is being shared.
This episode provides tips on how to infuse “Yes, and” into your communications—and even how to use it to disagree effectively.
Your One Bold Move: Practice using collaborative language. Use “Yes, And” in a conversation today.

  • 45. Personal Branding is a Way to Serve Others
Personal branding is generally defined as marketing yourself and your career as a brand. You have a brand, whether you like it or not. If this makes you uncomfortable or you think this only applies to senior executives in your organization, I want to show you why your brand matters and that sharing your brand is your chance to serve others.
Whether you’re on the job search, looking for new clients, or advancing your career, think about what you want people to know about you.
This episode provides tips on how to create your personal brand and leverage it on social media.
Your One Bold Move: Own your personal brand. Whether you have decided this year to serve others more consciously or to support your personal and professional goals, this is your chance to write your own story. Know who you are, what you stand for, and that sharing your story adds value to others.

  • 44. Leading Through Uncertainty
There is no playbook for how to lead through COVID-19. (And some days I really really wish there was.) You’re making choices every day to do things the best you can. And if you’re a leader, you are making choices that will affect others.
I’ve never managed during COVID, but I have lived through difficult moments—and so have you. I’ve learned over the years about how to lead with compassion, consistently communicate, and engage your team members.
Just because the world looks very different today, it doesn’t change all of the things you have worked toward as a leader. Instead you have to leverage all of your past experiences to lead through this.
This episode provides tips on how to lead through uncertainty, including:
    1. Be Courageous
    2. Communicate Clearly and Consistently
    3. Support Your Team Members
Your One Bold Move: Lead authentically and courageously through uncertainty, bringing your team members with you.
