Welcome. I’m JoAnn, and I’m grateful you chose to spend this moment with me.
As we move through this week, with Mother’s Day just a few days away, you may have already started to feel it, that quiet shift that comes as the day gets closer. It can show up in small ways, in your thoughts, in your emotions, in moments that feel a little heavier or a little more tender than usual.
So before we go any further, I just want to offer a moment where you don’t have to push any of that aside. This is for the ones holding mixed emotions as Mother’s Day approaches.
I want to slow this down for a moment and make room for something a little quieter, a little more honest, and a little more real. Because while this day is often filled with celebration, not everyone feels that way.
For some, it brings warmth and gratitude. For others, it brings memories. And for many, it carries a mix of emotions that are harder to put into words. You can feel love and grief at the same time. You can feel thankful and still feel the weight of what has changed. You can be present, and still feel the absence of something that used to be.
And if that’s where you find yourself, holding emotions that don’t quite fit into what this day is supposed to look like, I want you to know, you’re not alone.
I understand that in a very personal way. My mom is still here, and I’m grateful for that, but things are not the same as they once were. And learning how to hold love and change at the same time, that’s its own kind of experience. And maybe you understand that too, in your own way.
Sometimes the hardest part about days like this is not the feeling itself. It is the quiet pressure to feel something different. To be okay. To celebrate the way others are celebrating. To show up with a smile, even when your heart feels heavy or uncertain.
But the truth is, not every season fits neatly into celebration. There are seasons where things have shifted, where relationships are different, and where the way you experience this day has changed in ways you did not expect. And in those moments, it can feel like you are carrying something quietly while everything around you feels loud.
But what if you did not have to carry it that way?
What if, instead of trying to fix what you feel, you allowed yourself to simply be honest about it?
Because peace does not always come from everything around you settling down. Sometimes it comes from giving yourself permission to feel what is true, without trying to rush past it.
Peace, in this kind of space, is not loud or perfect. It is quiet, steady, and rooted in grace. It is the gentle decision to meet yourself with compassion instead of pressure.
And maybe that is what this moment is asking of you. Not to have everything figured out, and not to resolve every emotion before the day arrives, but simply to make room for what is there, and to trust that even here, you are still being held.
Held in the quiet moments, held in the thoughts that come and go, and held in the spaces where you are trying to make sense of what has changed.
Even when the day feels heavy, you are not carrying it alone. Even when your emotions feel mixed, you are not misunderstood. And even when you cannot fully explain what you feel, God still sees you clearly.
There is a gentleness available to you here, a kind of peace that does not rush you, a presence that does not ask you to pretend, and a quiet reassurance that you can take this one moment at a time.
You do not have to brace yourself for the day ahead. You can move through it slowly, you can give yourself permission to feel what you feel, and you can trust that as each moment comes, you will have what you need to meet it.
And you do not have to do that alone.
So as you sit with this, and as you hold whatever this day brings for you, I want you to take a moment to be still, a moment for me to pray with you.
Heavenly Father,
You see every heart listening right now. You feel what this season brings for each person, the emotions they can name and the ones they cannot quite put into words. You see the love, the memories, the longing, and even the quiet grief that may be present.
I ask that You meet them right where they are. Bring peace into the places that feel unsettled, and comfort into the spaces that feel tender. Remind them that they do not have to carry this alone.
For those who feel overwhelmed, quiet their thoughts. For those who feel heavy, lighten their hearts. For those who feel uncertain, steady their steps.
Help them to release the pressure to feel a certain way and instead rest in the truth that You are present in every part of this.
As they move toward this coming Mother’s Day, give them the grace to take it one moment at a time. Surround them with Your peace, and remind them that even in the middle of something complicated, they are still held, still seen, and still loved.
Amen.
You are allowed to feel what you feel. You are allowed to move through it in your own way. And you do not have to force this into something it is not.
You can take this moment as it comes, without rushing it, without trying to shape it into something easier or more acceptable. You can let yourself be present, even if what you feel is still unfolding, still tender, still unclear.
There is a quiet kind of grace that meets you here, in the middle of it all. A steady presence that does not pull away when things feel complicated, but stays with you, gently holding space for every part of your experience.
And maybe that is enough for today. Not answers, not resolution, but the simple knowing that you are not alone in what you carry.
There is still space for peace here.
One breath, one step, one day at a time.
