Most of us are either still bragging about the amazing holiday meals we created through a perfect blend of ingredients or committing to a perfect blend of disciplined behaviors for a new year. But there are really only two forces powerful enough to inspire creation, effect restoration and produce transformation in our lives: the Spirit of God and the Word of God. Both were present at the Creation. But were present at the Incarnation. Both were present at our Regeneration. Both are with us now … and that means the possibilities are endless.

Most of us are enamored with superheros. After all, they usually have a superpower. We can’t identify with that. But they also have weaknesses. We can certainly identify with that! Either way, we don’t usually see ourselves as superheros. Today, we’re going to explore the life of a biblical “superhero” named Job and, through his story, we’ll discover this: God is for you. He is with you. He is in you. And if you’ll lean into Him when you are at your weakest, He will give you a strength and power fictional superheroes only dream of.

Have you ever had the experience of looking for your glasses (or sunglasses) only to discover they were on your head? Or maybe you’ve looked for your phone or keys and then realized you were holding them in your hand. Many times, we find ourselves looking for God in difficult situations, only later to discover that He was there all the time. As we explore the life of Bathsheba, we find her in some of the most heartbreaking and difficult circumstances imaginable. But when we look closer, we discover that God was there all the time.

In our “picture-perfect” Christmas, we imagine being surrounded by our closest friends and family members. We imagine relational harmony. We imagine intimate family dinners where everyone gets along and no one causes drama! But God’s perfect picture of Christmas calls us to something even bigger and more beautiful. In God’s perfect picture of Christmas, outsiders become insiders. Strangers become family. Enemies become friends. And even those on the fringe of society become intimately connected to God’s ultimate divine purpose of redeeming and restoring the world to Him! In God’s perfect picture of Christmas, those who are far off draw close to the love of God in Christ!

We all have a picture in our minds of what we want Christmas to look like. We all have our “Picture Perfect Christmas.” It probably includes friends, family, good food, gifts, laughter, joy and togetherness. However, we also know that the “Picture Perfect Christmas” in our mind rarely matches the reality of our lives. While Christmas is certainly a time of joy and laughter, it’s also a time of financial strain, relationship stress, loneliness, fatigue and pressure. So for the next few weeks, we’re going to let go of the “Picture Perfect Christmas” of our imagination, and take a good long look at the real picture of Christmas in the scriptures. We believe you will be refreshed, encouraged, and inspired by this brand new series called: “A Picture Perfect Christmas!”

The story paints an intimate portrait of what grace really means. Grace means you are accepted by God. Grace means you are identified with God. Grace means you are authorized by God. Grace means you are redeemed by God. And grace ultimately means you are lavishly celebrated by God! Join us this morning to experience the personal and intimate gift of God’s grace!

Have you ever met someone who was arrogant, cocky, full of themself, and who looked down on others? We all have. On the other hand, we’ve also met people who are filled with self-doubt, a sense of unworthiness, self-defeat, and condemnation. In fact most of us fall somewhere in between. Sometimes we experience self-righteousness. Other times we experience shame. And we know that both of these attitudes are destructive to our relationships with God and others. Today, we are going to explore how God can free us from the “Pride-Shame Continuum” with his beautiful and glorious gift of GRACE!

And when we recognize our weaknesses, our natural response can be defensiveness, deceit, or even defiance. Today we launch a new series where we are going to explore God’s grace. The scriptures teach us that God’s grace is sufficient even in our weakness. In fact, it’s in the midst of our weakness that God does his best work.

But sometimes, the most powerful postures of a disciple are the simplest. If I want to exercise power and authority, I need to sit. If I want to resist the enemy, I need to stand. The Good News is that both are possible through Jesus. It’s really not about me. It’s all about Him. Join us today as we hear what God says about the power available in our lives if we learn something as “simple” as how to sit and stand at the same time!
