Open the Voice Gate

Welcome back to Open the Voice Gate - Rewind and Rewatch, where Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) are Rewinding and Rewatching the Dragon Gate USA era of shows.

It’s the 2nd Anniversary triple-shot weekend, and it kicks off on 6/3/2011 in Revere, Massachusetts at the Wonderland Ballroom with Fearless 2011. Before the show, we step into the timeline to talk about the DGUSA events post-Wrestlemania 2011 leading up to this weekend of shows. A note on Larry Sweeney, Jimmy Jacobs’ sudden departure, Chuck Taylor’s injury, and DGUSA dealing with the unit shakeup in Japan are the big moments from April into June of 2011.

After that, Case and Mike discuss an incredibly uneven Fearless 2011 that has both of them wondering if the famed DGUSA slide is beginning. Featuring the return of Masaaki Mochizuki, they reflect highly on his return, a Susumu Yokosuka and Ricochet match that would foreshadow matches to come, and an United Gate main event with the now Former World-1 teammates of Masato Yoshino and PAC defending against former Kamikaze USA in YAMATO and Akira Tozawa. The gang also wonders if this is one of the worst venues in DGUSA history, a lot of DUF, and a ridiculously long Austin Aries vs Johnny Gargano match.

The show review starts at 00:26:08

Welcome back to Open the Voice Gate! Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) are back with an update on the comings and goings of Dragongate.

Just a heads up: Case and I had a bunch of internet gremlins get a hold of this recording, and I had to use a low quality capture and piece it together. Apologies for the sound quality (Case is louder, I'm soft and rode levels). Will be fixed next week. - Mike

On this week’s update, Case and Mike talk about the AEW/Stronghearts news and relate it to the current status of the stable. After that, they review the three shows Dragongate had over five days in Kyoto on 8/8, Osaka on 8/9, and Korakuen on 8/12 as Dangerous Gate grows ever closer. The improvement of Diamante, the Complete Guide to Punch Tominaga’s career, and U-T’s return are highlights of this run of shows. Afterwards, they preview 8/15’s show at Kobe Sambo Hall and start to look ahead to the remainder of DG’s August and into September!

Welcome back to Open the Voice Gate - Rewind and Rewatch, where Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) are Rewinding and Rewatching the Dragon Gate USA era of shows.

It is time to close out Wrestlemania Weekend 2011 with Open the Ultimate Gate 2011 from Atlanta's Presidental Ballroom on 4/3/2011. After a short timeline to catch everyone up to speed and to see how much Mike remembers of this Wrestlemania, the pair sit down and review the final show in Jon Moxley's run in DGUSA!

It's a big era shifting show as on Ultimate Gate 2011 we see the debut of D.U.F. as a team, the supposed final show of Austin Aries in DGUSA, an United Gate match with two divergent opinions, and a very impromptu double main event, where if Akira Tozawa defeats Moxley in a No DQ match, his scheduled match against YAMATO becomes for the Open the Freedom Gate!

Case and Mike round out the show talking about the tenure of Jon Moxley in DGUSA, did DGUSA make the wrong decision with the Freedom Gate, the treatment of Ronin over Mania Weekend 2011 and a lot more.

The show review begins at 00:10:55.

Memorial Gate in Wakayama 2020 has come and gone, and we are now in the era of "El Numero Uno" Eita as Open the Dream Gate Champion! This OTVG Weekly Update starts off with discussing the big title change as Eita defeated Naruki Doi on 8/2/2020. Case and Mike talk about the career defining victory of Eita, what we can expect from Eita's title reign and look back in hindsight at Doi's reign.

After that, they talk about the rest of the show including new Open the Twin Gate champion team of Kota Minoura & Jason Lee, the first ever WAKAYAMA RULES TORNADO WINNING TEAM ELIMINATION match, and the rest of Memorial Gate! Then they preview the upcoming shows in Kyoto, Osaka, Nagoya and Tokyo to end out this week's episode!

DGUSA is finally in Atlanta, and it's time for their second Wrestlemania Weekend! To help us out in reviewing the first ever WWNLive iPPV, friend of the show Joey Bay (https://twitter.com/joey_bay) stops by to talk about how it was like watching Mercury Rising 2011 from Atlanta's Presidental Ballroom on 4/2/2011 in person, and what it's like watching back over this show! PAC defends the Open the Brave Gate Title against Akira Tozawa in this show that also features the Open the Freedom Gate defense of YAMATO vs Austin Aries, who is threatening to leave the promotion if he loses. The DG Six-Man Tag is back for 2011 as this year's edition is Blood Warriors of CIMA, Ricochet and Naruki Doi versus the first all American team of Ronin consisting on Johnny Gargano, Rich Swann and Chuck Taylor! It's a weird Mania show, but it's a fun one to recount!

The gang goes through each match on offer for August 2nd's big show, give their thoughts and their predictions. Are we about to enter the Era of Eita? Closing the show, they look ahead at the jam-packed August slate of shows for Dragongate, with eight shows including the lead up to September's Dangerous Gate

Welcome back to Open the Voice Gate - Rewind and Rewatch, where Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) are Rewinding and Rewatching the Dragon Gate USA era of shows.

It’s almost Wrestlemania 2011 time, but before DGUSA hit Atlanta, they make a stop in Mike Spears territory in Burlington, NC at the Mid-Atlantic Sportatorium on 4/1/2011 for “Open the Southern Gate!”

Before Case and Mike get into the first show of the Mania Weekend Triple Shot, they take a look at a very impactful March in the Dragon System. Ronin finally gets to go to Japan! Gabe announces both a Stable Shootout and a Breakout Challenge for “Open the Southern Gate.” Dragon Gate is gearing up for their 2011 Sumo Hall show before the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/2011 hits Japan and changes everything. Case and Mike take you through the reporting from when it happened, including accounts from wrestlers in Japan during one of the most devastating disasters in recent history, and how it changed Dragon Gate both in 2011 and forever.

After that, they get into “Open the Southern Gate” with one of Mike’s least favorite matches in DGUSA history, the perplexing way Jon Moxley’s last weekend in DGUSA began, and the Stable Shootout and Breakout Challenge main evented by the Dream Partners match of Ricochet and PAC facing Chuck Taylor and Akira Tozawa!

The first ever Open the United Gate Champions are decided as DGUSA ends their first tripleshot at the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ for United: Finale on 1/30/2011. Before we get into that, we cover the 2010 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards and the Dragon System representatives and touch on a couple news items.

Then Case and Mike get into United: Finale, a truly bizarre DGUSA show hampered by a terrible arena and weird booking. BxB Hulk vs Akira Tozawa is the stand out on the night that had an utterly baffling Homicide vs Jon Moxley No DQ match and a lot of Moxley and Reby Sky. At the end of the show, we had the World-1 team of Masato Yoshino and PAC face off with the Ronin team of Johnny Gargano and Chuck Taylor.

Closing out the show, we dip back into the timeline to cover the events in the Dragon System leading us up to the end of February with a PAC contra PAC match and two interesting new assistants to Blood Warriors in Japan.

It’s week two for DG in front of crowds, and Case and Mike cover the July 12th show from Osaka and the return to Korakuen Hall on July 15th for the first Tokyo show for Dragongate since February. They talk all about the continued ascent of Kota Minoura, the fantastic return of Shuji Kondo, the build to Memorial Gate and the announcement of the Six Way Cage Match in September. Welcome back to Open the Voice Gate - Rewind and Rewatch, where Case (https://twitter.com/_inyourcase) and Mike (https://twitter.com/fujiiheya) are Rewinding and Rewatching the Dragon Gate USA era of shows.

This episode of Rewind and Rewatch covers United: Philly, from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on 1/292/2011. Before we get into the show itself, Case and Mike breakdown what all was going on in the US Indie scene in late 2010 and early 2011, including our first (and maybe last) ever look into CZW.

After that, we review United: Philly, a night of a bunch of awkward interviews both in the ring and outside of it, but the big North American double-turn of Blood Warriors and Ronin. The Open the United Gate Tournament continues with yet another incredible night of tag matches as Chuck Taylor and Johnny Gargano take on CK-1 consisting of CIMA and Dragon Kid, and Naruki Doi and Ricochet vs World-1 of Masato Yoshino and PAC end up having the early DGUSA 2011 Match of the Year Contender and possibly PAC’s best ever match in North America.

The show review starts at 00:28:32.
