How to transform yourself into the person you wish to be
I’ve heard people use the excuse, “I just don’t have the drive that those other people have”. What they didn’t understand is that it’s not an internal energy source called “drive” that gets people out of bed in the morning. It’s not a rare commodity that some people have, and others do not, which has people putting in the extra effort. What people perceive as “drive” is actually something that EVERYBODY has access to. It’s not drive, …it’s just a decision.
Let’s use fitness as an example.
Being active does not require “drive”, it requires a decision. Here is how the process works.
Realize that you DESERVE to be the type of person which you admire. Whoever your Role Model is, they have provided you with a road map to the success you desire. You don’t have to “wish you were like them”, you can actually BE them, at least to some degree. First, you must realize the truth, which is that you DESERVE to raise yourself from your current position. You are WORTHY of MORE out of life.
Understand that you don’t need some internal force in order to move towards your goals. Instead, all you need to do is to DECIDE to move forward…every single day, at least a little.
Once you accept that you DESERVE to move forward, and you decide to move forward, realize that you have made a promise to yourself.
Have the character, and integrity to KEEP that promise to yourself every single day. Every single day, spend at least 5 minutes moving towards your goal.
The more you keep promises to yourself, the more your self respect will grow. The more your self respect grows, the more effort you will invest into yourself to achieve your goals. This starts a positive feedback loop that grows, and grows, and grows, transforming you into the person who you wish to be.
Keeping promises to yourself every day, no matter how small, will build your self esteem.Start with the simple things like making your bed..every single day. This is an act of self respect. Nobody sees it but you…and you do it JUST for YOU. This is a symbol of self respect that you can build on.
Exercise for 15 minutes a day
Spend 5-15 minutes a day to Learn a new language with a free app on your phone. I’m now over 700 days in a row, and once I learn French, I’ll keep learning new languages, every day, for the rest of my life. This is an act of self respect.
I also stay sober every single day. This is an act of self respect that I’ve been doing for over 2.5 years now.
