You know those people that seemingly never sit still or sleep?  Those people that are just so productive with their waking hours that they seem to accomplish in one hour what it might take you a lifetime to achieve?  We sat down with someone who certainly had us gaping in awe at all she’s accomplished in such a short time, Illinois College of Optometry student, Chelsea Laden.

Before she decided to pursue a career in optometry, Laden had already accomplished a lot. She played collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac University, where she led her team to a NCAA Tournament appearance and won multiple awards as a stand out goaltender.  After playing hockey professionally for a year in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Hockey League, Laden began thinking long term about her career. She was interested in medical school, but working with optometry in vision therapy programs with the National Women’s Hockey League opened her eyes to optometry as a career passion.  She spent time as a vision therapist for a local OD, and also worked in the optical.

That’s where inspiration struck for her business Venture, Twenty4K LLC. Frustrated by dealing with returns and exchanges while she was working in optical, Laden founded her eyewear company on the principle that purchasing, returning and exchanging frames should be a process that is innately friendly and painless to the eyecare provider.  Through her program, doctors have no minimum orders, one-to-one exchange policies, and easy shipping. Her frame designs are inspired to be universally wearable, with classic shapes in basic colors like black and tortoise. Inspired by her family and faith, Laden named each frame with an empowering message.

Despite the fact that she’s a full-time optometry school student, she finds the time to run her optical business and maintain a robust social media following! @twenty4kllc has over 7,000 followers and a strong brand identity.  She shares her tips for social media success, and what inspires her to keep innovating, even in her young career, on this week’s podcast!
