Nicholas Ossórguine of blessed memory taught liturgical singing at St Sergius Theological Institute in Paris and conducted the choir at St Sergius of Radonezh church there for over 40 years.The eight tones form the basis of one of the liturgical cycles in Orthodox Christian worship, the eight-week cycle. The course is presented in Russian with a link to the English transcript in the programme notes of the 'Introduction'. It consists of an Introduction, a lesson for each of the eight tones and two additional lessons. The listener can view or print the PDF transcript to follow the entire course in English.
