Otaku Brothers episodes

  • Episode 8: Saturday Morning Cartoons
In the eighth episode of Otaku Brothers Ryan and Rusty of course kick it off as always with the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan continues his adventures with Dark Souls, farming for new armor with multiple character builds. With Rusty on vacation, he stuck to some of his favorite portable systems, playing games like The Lion King: Simba’s Mighty Adventure and Land Before Time. He also sunk some time into an outstanding new Vita game called Reverie.
Later in the show we take listener questions before taking a trip down memory lane with some of our favorite old-school, and some newer, Saturday Morning Cartoons…with a twist. Stay tuned to hear about some of our favorites while we go on about a dozen tangents talking about nothing related to the main topic. Per usual. Enjoy the episode!
I also wanted to personally thank Jason Heine for creating the intro to the show. He's creating excellent stuff over on YouTube, and has his own podcast on iTunes called Music, Games, and Gear. PLEASE check out his content and show him some support!

  • Episode 7: Schools Out For Summer
In the seventh episode of Otaku Brothers Ryan and Rusty of course kick it off as always with the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan delves further into the pits of Blight Town with Dark Souls Remastered and also turns to Darkest of Dark sides by downloading the eBay app on his phone. Big spending is in his future. In traditional fashion Rusty plays too many games. From Peggle 2 to one of the most unique, 2D, beautifully hand drawn animation platformers called Sir Eatsalot on Vita, you could say Rusty mixed it up this week. He also wrapped up Jak & Daxter Precursor Legacy and gives his impressions on what was originally a critically panned PS4 game, The Order: 1886.
Next we go deep into some outstanding listener questions. We especially get lost in the realm of old-school 90’s PC point and click adventure games with no signs of return. Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re our only hope. We finish off the episode with the main topic, Summer Gaming. We talk long vacation rides with our GameBoy’s and weirdo summer gaming binges. Ryan also may actually be Sid from Toy Story. Enjoy the episode!

  • Episode 6: When Batman Goes to Amish Country
In the sixth episode of Otaku Brothers Ryan and Rusty of course kick it off as always with the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan got too caught up in RL business this week so his time was limited to just a bit of MineCraft. Rusty in traditional fashion played a smorgasbord of things. From raging due to little 12 year olds in Rainbow Six Siege to taking a trip to 10,000 B.C. in Far Cry Primal. He also finished Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and played the glorified Kingdom Hearts 3 demo, Kingdom Hearts .02 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage. We wish we were making that name up, but we’re not. Rusty loved it (surprise!) and now he’s contemplating playing through all Kingdom Hearts games again. Someone send help.
Next we get into some listener questions, quickly talk about some of our most anticipated games coming away from E3, before diving into the Twilight Zone with no signs of return. That’s all I’ll say. You need to just listen for yourself. Enjoy the show!

  • Episode 5: There and Back Again
In the fifth episode of Otaku Brothers Ryan and Rusty of course kick off the episode with the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan continues to punch down them trees in Minecraft, but also returns to Kanto in Pokemon Yellow Version. Rusty has a whole slew of games to talk about from N64 classics, to Rainbow Six Siege and Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below.
Then, we go through a ton of listener mail before diving into our Top 5 Movies of all time. Some surprising picks from both…particularly Rusty (don’t judge the poor kid). We also go off on a long Walking Dead tangent/rant for no apparent reason. Enjoy the show!

  • Episode 4: Borne to Fat Roll
In the fourth episode of Otaku Brothers, Rusty and Ryan kick off the episode as usual talking about the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan continues the Minecraft train, punching trees and building the New World. Following up on Yooka-Laylee, Rusty played what some would consider a PS2 Classic with Naughty Dog’s Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. After that he talks about what he would argue is one of the most emotionally impactful games he’s played in years, that being Old Man’s Journey. You definitely don’t want to miss his impressions on this one! We also do E3 Predicitions! Tis the season, so tune in to hear about what crazy things Ryan and Rusty think are going to happen between some of the major publishers.
After the break we do a deep dive into all things Bloodborne and Dark Souls. Ryan breaks down the entire lore of Bloodborne, so strap in with a box of popcorn. You’ll learn more about the games deeper meanings and story than you ever thought possible. Then Rusty and Ryan both share their impressions playing Bloodborne for the first time and compare the gameplay with that of the Dark Souls games. Towards the end of the episode, the guys talk about how horrifying each of the bosses are, rank their favorites, and talk about what they’d like to see from Bloodborne 2. Enjoy the show!

  • Episode 3: For the Love of Pokemon
In the third episode of Otaku Brothers, Rusty and Ryan kick off the episode as usual talking about the games they’ve been playing recently. Ryan plays more of the same with Minecraft and Bloodborne, while Rusty went off the deep end. Not only did he collect too many Pagies in Yooka-Laylee, but he also played the legendary train wreck that is Life of Black Tiger. You don’t want to miss hearing about the latter.
Later on we dive deep into all things Pokemon: first experiences playing the games, favorite main-line game in the series and spinoff, the team of 6 we most recently took to the Elite Four, and then we dream about our ideal Pokemon game on the Nintendo Switch. We have ambitious hopes. Enjoy the show!

  • Episode 2: The Force is Strong With This One
In the second episode of Otaku Brothers, Rusty and Ryan kick off the episode discussing games they’ve been playing recently. Rusty tries to convince the audience to play a gem of a platformer, Yooka-Laylee, while Ryan enjoys the scenic and family friendly Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. Later on we dive deep into all things Star Wars – First experiences watching the movies, ranking all of the films, favorite Star Wars Video games, a complete breakdown and review of the Last Jedi (WITH SPOILERS), and so much more.
