This is from last year. I'm still trying to update these as i go, there shouldn't be that many old ones left. With that being said, this is about a great man that should be known to everyone. Percy Julian who had come up with multiple inventions as far as medicine is concerned. Please do some research on this man and enjoy.
This... This is a conversation piece for sure. The word Swarthy clearly means dark skinned and is an old timey word that has lost its usage. But way back in the day I mean Pre Civil War this word was used to describe many men and women. In fact it wasn't an insult but more like distinction device to separate Black people who were of European descent and slaves from Africa. As time has moved on. almost all of the people who were once labeled as swarthy aren't anymore. One reason is because America is so Black and white that knowing this person was swarthy brings up so many questions about our past. I've been looking this up for a few weeks now, and the word means tanned all of a sudden. The mention of dark skin isn't even mentioned anymore. Please do your research on this if you know something I don't feel free to get at me. Enjoy.
When you think of The Grand Ole Opry you don't of many Black people if any right? Trust me you're not alone. This brother by the Deford Bailey had became a mainstay in The Grand Ole Pry. The Country Music Hall Of Fame inductee gets overlooked as the first Black person to rock in the theatre. Please do you're research on this man and enjoy
When the term unsung pops up this is one of the faces you should see. Bayard Rustin... This man literally was The civil Rights Movement. From gay rights to Integration to people being treated fairly with wages and other things. His sexuality made him somewhat of a liability but not really. We also talk my childhood and how I was always on the grind. Please do your own research on Bayard Rustin and enjoy.
This is history in the making, African countries decriminalizing gay marriage. It is a major step for many countries, not just the five I speak about. Father's Day is around the corner... Salute to all the fathers around the world. Please do your research and enjoy.
The Senegalese Tirailleur fought on behalf of France. I didn't say the name because I didn't want to butcher it, yeah I'm starting to pull back from just messing names up. With that being said, the fact that France had more soldiers in the war from Africa than the other European countries says a lot. I spoke briefly about those independent African nations that also joined to fight against Germany. I some how found myself speaking on WW2 and Hoover... Yeah, I veered off some how but it's history. Since I don't really edit this segments from the show for these episodes I also let it be known that you can leave messages via messenger. If you want to leave comments just go to https://www.facebook.com/SoulOfArtProduction and leave an audio message. I'll play it in the show. Thanks for listening. Enjoy and do your own research.
Been out here on some Public Enemy stuff hard as of late. This is me being on my soapbox talking about Memorial Day and how Black people not only started it but should embrace it. It's very hard for many of us as Black people to be patriotic and even if you knew how much we have given to this country that bitterness would still control our emotions. I'm not saying they're right or wrong, I'm saying We play and have always played a major part in this country in the midst of war. Enjoy this episode and do your own research as well.
Ending Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with some crazy and sad facts about how as a country we treated American Japanese people. I just touched on a few things, there is so much more that isn't really told. Please do your own research and enjoy this episode.
As the stories broke these last two days about the school shooting in Texas I thought of two Public Enemy songs. I am sorry this episode may be very heavy handed about what went down earlier this week. There is so much evil in this situation and it really can't be talked about in a quick segment on a mix show. Politics play a major part in all that is happening surrounding what went down with this school shooting. No matter how you feel about gun control, we all should have enough humanity to want something done about how easy people can get assault riffles. Thank you for listening and enjoy.
