  • 5 Things people often forget to check before buying a business planner
In this episode of Overgivers Anonymous Podcast, we’re going to be talking about buying your business planner. When you’re thinking about buying a business planner, a lot of us get sidetracked by the pretty planners on the market. You are going to hear this from me a few times, pretty planners don’t work. A planner is a tool and there are some very important features to consider when choosing which planner will work best for you.

Here are some key points for you to think about when choosing your planner:

What’s the purpose of the planner?
What size do you need it to be?
What quality do you want it to be?
Would you like it to be dated or undated?
What day does it start on?
Do you need it to be customizable?

Your business is not the same as everyone else’s so look at the different options you have available for yourself and for your business. Take into account what you’re looking for, make sure that you are able to track the things you want to track and ensure that the planner you choose will serve your purpose.

  • How to Use Project Management Software Like Clickup
Let’s talk about project management software. There are a lot of things that you can manage, from a project perspective, in your life and in your business. A lot of things that we do, can be broken down into smaller chunks to make them easier to complete. The best way to complete a great big project is to break it up into smaller pieces. And that’s what project management software does for you. It also allows you to analyze the information to keep you on track. Today I wanted to share with you how I use project management software, and more specifically ClickUp, to get projects completed and achieve goals.

    Here are the major takeaways:

What to do instead of focusing on to-do lists.
Breaking up your projects into manageable tasks
How due dates are imperative to actually getting sh*t done!.
Why having a customer care section in your project management system can be important for your business.
The fewer systems you use, the more effective you’re going to be with those systems.
How your project management system can be a hub of valuable business information such as your company information, communication and branding standards, team member information etc.
How to facilitate team member communication.

For me, when it comes down to project management systems, my favourite is ClickUp because it allows me to create whatever I want, however I want to see it. The reports and views are easily customized so that it is easy to see what is happening inside your business. It doesn’t limit my abilities, and it allows each team member to see the information the way they need it. It makes getting the work done easier for everyone.

  • How to get over the disease to please with Sherry Benson-Podolchuk
In this episode, I have a really cool guest for you. Her name is Sherry Benson-Podolchuk. And today, we are going to talk about the disease to please. Here are some of the highlights:

For women, it tends to be more difficult because we have this societal perception that women are always giving and nurturing and I think that the disease to please is something a lot of people have, and they don’t even know it.
    It’s curable
People thought I just enjoyed always volunteering
The people who respected boundaries understood completely. The people who did not respect boundaries called me selfish and inconsiderate and “Who do you think you are? And you always said yes before, why are you saying no now”
It’s not an overnight thing, it took a long time for me to sort of find and figure out what works for me.
When you are somebody who is an overgiver or somebody who’s constantly looking to please people, this is the disease to please people. It’s because your habits have allowed you to be this way. So your habit is yes. It’s just yes.
A lot of women and overgivers tend to not be able to look in the mirror and say “I really like you”.
There are really generous loving people who give, give, give and they have no idea what’s going on in their life. And maybe for some that is what they like to do. My concern is there’s a lot of people who are suffering from the overgiving and the disease to please and they really believe that they don’t have an option.
    Sherry’s self-care toolkit

Sherry is a retired officer with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She has written three books, “Lake Agassi Murders” a fiction novel, “Find your voice” and her first novel was “WOMEN NOT WANTED”, about her 20-year career and how she dealt with workplace conflict, bullying and sexual harassment. Since retiring she works as a professional speaker/educator/consultant focusing on workplace conflict and helping others find their ‘voice’. She is frequently called upon as a subject matter analyst by media and government organizations. She was part of two Federal government reports focusing on sexual harassment and bullying in the workplace, providing testimony and recommendations for changes in the RCMP. She graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in Conflict Resolution Studies in 2012 and in 2015 Sherry presented at TEDx Winnipeg on ‘Tools to Survive Workplace Bullying’. Sherry has presented for Universities, SHEDay, RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa, Canadian Conference Board of Canada, women’s groups both local and international on the importance of speaking up about workplace conflict, sexual harassment, leadership and mental health. In November 2017, she received the Canada 150 Senate Medal from Senator Grant Mitchell, for her continued efforts at helping others speak up about harassment. She was part of ‘ASSHOLES: A Theory’ a Documentary by John Walker a Canadian and International Film director, that focuses on ‘bullying behaviours’, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in May of 2019.
Her motto is ‘The power of your voice can create positive change. Everyone deserves to feel safe at home and in the workplace.’
This Episode has a lot of value and I hope you guys can get some inspiration on how to set up boundaries and take care of yourselves, your mental health and your well-being. We can’t take care of others without taking care of ourselves first.

  • What is ClickUp?
In this episode of The Overgivers Anonymous Podcast, we’re going to be talking about ClickUp. You’ve probably heard me mentioned that a few times on the podcast, I’ve had a guest or two who talked about it. I am so thrilled with this particular piece of software, I needed to dedicate an episode to it. I want to tell you what I think is really cool about it.

There’s no doubt in my mind that ClickUp is going to overtake this marketplace by storm
It allows you so much freedom, flexibility to create your system the way you want it.
What I can make ClickUp do, I can’t get Asana or Trello to even begin to do.
It’s considered a project management software tool, but it’s so much more than that.
ClickUp is continuously adding updates. The updates are pretty much weekly.
    They listen to the end-user.
You can organize your business, personal life, your health documents, your pet documents if you can you name it, you can keep track of it in ClickUp
Yes, clickup is free, and yes, it’s free forever.
You can get quite a bit done with a free version before you need to upgrade.
    The collaboration is amazing.
You can assign comments to your team.
Editing with your team In real-time.
Built-in chat feature. So you can get rid of Slack.
They have a map Mind Map tool built right in
There are documents built-in, you can literally have pages and pages in one document inside ClickUp which is brilliant.

And there’s so much more. So yes, I am 100% in love with ClickUp. You can tell I love it a lot. And I hope this episode will inspire you to go and try it out because it has so much value!

  • How do I start to capture my processes?
In this episode of the over givers anonymous podcast, we’re going to talk about processes. I’ve had some people reach out and say, “okay, I get that you’ve said I should document my processes, that it’s helpful, that it’ll help me to stay on track, that it’ll help me to manage my time better, but oh my gosh, it’s so daunting, how am I even going to begin this process?”. So let’s go over how I’d do it!

You can actually give somebody that process And they can do the work for you while you’re doing something else.
It might not feel like time-saving, because it takes you longer to do the task, but in the end, it does save you time because other people are now working for you while you’re off doing something else.
There are some easy ways to do it. You can choose which one you want to use.
This is the way I like to do it:

Write down all the things you want to capture so that you don’t miss them.
Set aside time to record the process.
My favorite way to capture a process is to use loom
    I also like to transcribe.

Upload the video to Otter.ai and auto transcribes it. It’s not perfect, but it’s pretty darn awesome.

My VA can then take that information and populate it into the template that I have already prepared for her.

I hope that that is giving you a light bulb moment where you figure out this isn’t actually as hard as you thought it was gonna be. Then when you hire someone they’re going to be so grateful that you’ve given them these documents because it’s going to save them time. They won’t have to guess how you do things the right way for you. Not only that, but you’re going to end up having much better quality employees in the end, and your employees are going to stick around, that’s a satisfaction guarantee. They feel satisfied because they know that they’re doing something that you want them to do. They’re doing something the way that you want them to do, there’s no guesswork, and you feel good that you’re hiring people who can do the things the way you want them to. So there’s a win-win here. So yes, it does take time, but I hope that this episode teaches you how that extra little bit of time is going to save you a ton of time in the future.

  • Amanda Woodbury – How creativity amplifies your ability to reignite and refocus your mindset
I have an incredible guest with me today and her name is Amanda Woodberry. She’s going to tell us how creativity amplifies your ability to reignite focus and refocus your mindset. We’re gonna be talking about crocheting, she is a certified crochet instructor, a mindset coach and she helps women to wake up excited to live the life they deserve and reignite connections with those they love through focusing on their ability to create and relieve their stress. By seeing tangible results with crocheting something beautiful.
Here is a glimpse of what we talked about:

Our day doesn’t need to be 36 hours long, because you’re going to burn out and you’re not going to love what you do.
You need to be able to put that work down to pick up The hook and the yarn to really have that time to focus on yourself. It definitely takes practice.
Crocheting is one of those versatile, small project things that you can take along with you
    Start easy
There have been many changes in the crochet industry, and now we know, there is an actual right way to start learning how to crochet.
Typically when you’re crocheting, you can actually see the tension in the string or the tension in your project. It’s actually a pretty good reflection of the tension in your person.
At what point should somebody or can somebody start to learn reading a pattern
When you’re learning, you’re concentrating on that learning, you’re not letting your brain get into flow mode. Once you have those skills learned, and then you can just crochet without having to think, then you will start to feel the rhythm and that will put your body in a self-soothing rhythm. It’s the repetitive motion over and over and over, that’s going to start to soothe you.
Picking the right pattern is important when you want to intentionally get those mindset benefits and that soothing calming benefit is key.

It is amazing to bring this last art back in a way that allows us to be able to unwind from our crazy world.

  • Do I need to outsource
In this episode of Overgivers Anonymous, we’re going to be talking about outsourcing for your business. A lot of times we get stuck in this over-givers mindset of being perfect and what ends up happening is, we think “I can’t get somebody to help me because they won’t be able to do it the same way I can”. Or “It’s going to take too much time to explain how I want it done, that it’s not worth my time at all”. Or “if I outsource to somebody else, what if they don’t do it at the right time?”. And the list goes on. We think that we’re the only person who can get it done.
It’s time to get honest with yourself! You don’t really believe that. You believe that there are people who can do amazing things, you don’t believe that you are the only one that is capable. The trouble is, when you have been doing it all for so long, somehow you get it stuck in your head, that nobody else can do it as you can. So take a deep breath, because it’s important.

    You can let go
Think about the person that you are aspiring to be. Does that person have a team? Does that person have somebody else doing some of the things for them?
When you can identify the different pieces of the process where you can actually get assistance inside your business when you can start to let some of that stuff go to other people and that frees you up.
If you pick somebody who has the right personality that would work well with you, has the skills to do the work and you keep that open communication between you, then soon you are not strangers anymore.
What is your time actually worth? All too often, we’re spending too much time working on things that aren’t worth our time.
If your time is worth $100 an hour, and you are spending four hours a week on organizing your emails or setting up appointments or doing things that anyone can do. Wouldn’t it make more sense to hire somebody who could do it, pay them 10 or $20 an hour, if you’re getting $100 an hour? The math makes sense.
You need more time, to be creative in your business, to come up with really cool things to do, so that you can have other people help you implement.
It’s not about turning your business over, you’re asking for assistance, and you’re paying people for that assistance. You are able to express how you want that assistance to happen inside your business. So you are not turning it over to anybody.

When you have the ability to spend your time on the things that are valuable for you in your business and growing your business while having other people do other things. That is when you start to really see the tables turn on your income because now you can have somebody look after the little things. Somebody can make sure that all the little pieces are looked after so that you can go on and make more money, impact more people and grow your business.

  • Why business owners should take time off
In this episode of Overgivers Anonymous, we’re going to be talking about why business owners should be taking time off. When you are extremely busy, trying so hard to make sure that you succeed so that people can see that you are successful and you can feel successful. When you are in this mindset, what ends up happening is your brain becomes literally too full for anything. However, when you slow down, when you take the time to be present, whatever that means to you, whatever that looks like to you, your mind actually becomes clear. And what happens is:

You become really clear about what is actually important
    You become much more creative
    You get ideas
You’re no longer so busy worried about what’s beyond the clouds, you can actually see what’s in front of you
    It will increase your productivity
It gives you a hell of a lot more energy
It actually increases the passion for your business

All of these things come together in one great big package. It is not just about taking time away and taking your work with you. It’s about finding time to be still. It’s about taking time to be yourself, to be with your family, to be with your spouse, to be alone. I encourage you to do this for yourself and don’t just do it once a year or once in a while, but find time on a regular basis to put some of these pieces together for yourself.
