🌟Welcome back to the Own Your Revival podcast! 🌟
Join me as we delve into the transformational power of the spoken word to either build someone up or tear them down. This is especially true when are are embarking on a journey unfamiliar to us and can be encouraged by others along the way. Both in receiving support and offering it to others. I'll bring this home with a real life experience of how a friend's belief in me helped me to grow stronger physically and rewire my thinking without me even realizing it. It's inspired me to look for more opportunities myself as a parent, friend, and coach to speak possibility over problems into people. I'll also be inviting you to accept a challenge, if you so choose, to take this simple idea and help us create a tsunami of positivity and change for the good in ourselves and others.

In a world that often glorifies big dreams and grand achievements, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed or inadequate in pursuing our own aspirations. However, as we explore the concept of following our dreams in a "little way," inspired by the virtues of St. Therese of Lisieux and the inspiration taken from a weekend of "video divinas," we are reminded that true fulfillment comes from becoming the fullest version of ourselves, regardless of the scale of our endeavors. Join us on a journey of embracing humility, trusting in the Lord, and discovering the beauty of pursuing our dreams in a way that aligns with our unique purpose and values.

Welcome back to the Own Your Revival Podcast!
I recently uncovered a tattered, 1952 copy of Norman Vincent Peale's book, "The Power of Positive Thinking" I purchased in college. My 20-something year old self was searching for answers to life's big questions in a way that was not conformed to the life of a Catholic Christian and frankly opened up the door to an entirely different sort of spirituality prevalent (and seemingly benign) throughout the culture. While thinking positively, setting goals and working towards them area all "good" things in and of themselves, there is a very real concern when the popular practice of "manifesting" is applied to them. Join me as I unpack the problem these practices and thoughts created for me in living as a Catholic and how I found the path to peace outside of them.

Join me as I open up about ending a tumultuous, two-year relationship that was impacting not only my life but my children's lives and overshadowing our precious family time during the holidays. I share my story as a rich metaphor for recognizing and addressing dysfunctional patterns in our lives. The twist? The relationship was with my dysfunctional dishwasher. Even though my heartbreak was of the major appliance variety, the parallels between the cycle of hope and disappointment so often experienced in personal relationships are very real. When promises to change are made (and routinely broken), how are we to discern the appropriate response? If you are ready to break up with chaos and create more predictability in your life, my prayer is this episode serves you well and grounds you in truth to forge a new, peaceful path ahead.
Mentioned in this episode:
1️⃣Discernment of Spirits by St. Ignatius of Loyola Rule 6, Part 2 (meditating on truth):
"Although in desolation we ought not to change our first resolutions, it is very helpful intensely to change ourselves against the same desolation, as by insisting more on prayer, meditation, on much examination, and by giving ourselves more scope in some suitable way of doing penance."
2️⃣Cycle of Abuse in Dysfunctional Relationships

Join me as I address the crosses we carry in the waiting times in our life – for the judge to rule, for the annulment to be (hopefully) granted, for the tests to come back, for the next wave of job losses to be announced – these can feel heavy and foreboding. There is inspiration and hope to be drawn from the story and writings of Saint Ignatius of Loyola for us in these places. His teachings on discernment of spirits and the importance of recognizing the internal movements leading us either towards or away from God are powerful tools we can use to wait well. Today I hone in on the one rule (of his 14 on discernment of spirits) that is certain to bring light to discerning the right action….especially when the future feels dark and foreboding. By being aware of our interior life and understanding the influence of both the good and bad spirits, we can choose to reject negative thoughts and continue taking the next right steps in our lives. I hope this episode empowers you to trust in God's plan, to use periods of waiting as opportunities for growth and sanctification, and to find peace in the present moment. If this message resonates with you, please share it with a friend or on social media, and join me in this journey of faith and personal revival.

Introduction to Discernment of Spirits
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyala (book)
5th Rule of Discernment of Spirits:
"The fifth: In time of desolation never to make a change; but to be firm and constant in the resolutions and determination in which one was the day preceding such desolation, or in the determination in which he was in the preceding consolation. Because, as in consolation it is rather the good spirit who guides and counsels us, so in desolation it is the bad, with whose counsels we cannot take a course to decide rightly."

In this week's episode, I'm sharing 4 practices I have to clarify the vision God has for my life in the new year.
