  • .19 [divorce] 4 things to pray about + consider before separating from your spouse

***This episode discusses divorce as it relates to children along with other adult-themed conversation so please exercise caution listening with young ones nearby.

This episode is a love note from Andy's heart to yours if you (or someone you love) are staring down the barrel of a possible separation (or divorce) you do not want. Not all faithful Catholics who experience divorce have simply chosen to walk away from the vow as some suggest, but may instead be living with the consequences of the other spouse's decision to dissolve the marriage. To further complicate the issue, many are silently struggling in marriages to avoid judgement over choosing to stay with the spouse when those close to you discover the depth of the destructiveness. Not knowing where to turn for support, and with the hope of restoring the marriage paramount, can lead to more confusion and isolation. Therefore, think of this episode as a safe place to curl up and be loved on in this broken place. Grab a cup of coffee and curl up in your favorite spot with Andy as she shares four things to consider and pray about to better discern God's will in carrying your cross.

    Mentioned on this episode:

    [00:08:29] Divorce you don't want.

[00:09:30] Not wanting to be divorced is different than wanting to stay married.

What choices would both honor your vow and allow you to tend to your emotional, physical, spiritual, financial, etc. needs?

What support would help you be more transparent with your spouse about your concerns for the marriage?

  • .13 [divorce] when do you know it's time to leave?

Whether you are in a bad marriage asking the question, "When do I know it's time to leave?" or walking with someone who is, this episode is an invitation to consider your marriage in a different way to hopefully gain more awareness, clarity and discernment about God's will provided it is safe and prudent to do so. Join Andy as she shares from the Emotionally Destructive Marriage by Leslie Vernick, author and licensed clinicial social worker, on the three different categories of bad marriages (marriages that struggle) and what can make it difficult to address and/or leave a destructive marriage. While it's true faithful Catholics must teach God's plan for marriage + family, it's also true the faithful divorced need a soft place to land to be wrapped in the loving embrace of Christ and his church. Our hope is that this episode is a safe place to peer into heart of what the divorced may be going through to support them when endings become necessary for grave reasons.
