  • EP224 Shame, Guilt and Healing: A Journey to Self-Acceptance

Welcome to episode 224 where get into a profound topic: shame.

In this episode, we delve into the profound emotional consequences of shame, exploring its impact on individuals' self-esteem, self-criticism, anxiety, and overall mental health. We discuss how shame can lead to a perpetual cycle of self-doubt and social withdrawal, making it challenging for individuals to form meaningful connections and fully embrace their authentic selves. Moreover, we shed light on the link between shame and depression, as well as the development of perfectionism as a coping mechanism to avoid shame.

    Key Takeaways:

Shame's Internal Struggle: Shame is an internal battle, leading to low self-esteem and an unrelenting self-critical voice that can be emotionally draining.

The Anxiety Connection: Shame often fuels anxiety, both social and generalized, as individuals fear judgment and rejection from others.

it tends to make us feel like we're just not good enough,

    and constantly doubting ourselves.

This can make it pretty tough

to be themselves and have good,

  • EP223 Confidence: Setting Boundaries for Self-Assurance

Welcome to episode 223 where start the month with a brand-new episode all about confidence!

In this episode we dove into the profound connection between self-doubt and the establishment of healthy boundaries. Self-doubt can be a pervasive force that affects personal and professional life, often leaving individuals questioning their abilities and self-worth. Today we explored how boundaries play a crucial role in breaking free from the grip of self-doubt and nurturing self-assurance.

    Understanding Self-Doubt:

First, let's dissect self-doubt. It's more than just a fleeting moment of uncertainty; it's a persistent internal voice that can chip away at one's confidence. We discussed the common signs and consequences of self-doubt, and how recognizing and acknowledging it is the first step towards transformation.

    The Role of Boundaries:

But what do boundaries have to do with self-doubt? Boundaries are the invisible lines that define our personal space, emotional limits, and what's acceptable in our interactions. We explained how failing to set clear boundaries can contribute to feelings of overwhelm, overcommitment, and burnout, all of which can fuel self-doubt.

    How Establishing Boundaries Boosts Confidence:

Now, let's shift our focus to how establishing and maintaining boundaries can be a powerful tool for boosting self-assurance. By respecting your own needs and limits, you send a message to yourself and others that your feelings and well-being matter. This newfound self-respect fosters self-assurance and a belief in your capabilities.

Towards the end of our episode, I introduced our "Find Your Voice" course, which is designed to help individuals embrace their authentic selves, build self-esteem, and establish healthier boundaries. Plus, I have a special offer exclusively for our podcast listeners.

Takeaway 1: Break Free from Self-Doubt: Recognize the signs of self-doubt and discover practical steps to break free from its grip, allowing your confidence to flourish.

Takeaway 2: Empowerment Through Boundaries: Learn how setting and maintaining boundaries empowers you to respect your own needs and limits, fostering greater self-assurance.

Takeaway 3: Your Journey to Self-Discovery: It's so important to embrace your authentic self, overcome self-doubt, and embark on a journey of self-discovery that leads to a more confident and fulfilling life.

Self-doubt can manifest as hesitation, fear, or uncertainty.

It's that moment of pause before you speak up in a meeting,

apply for a new job or pursue a personal goal.

It can make you question your worth, your competence,

  • EP222 Podcast Archive - EP098 Emotional Honesty:The Backbone of Healthy Assertiveness

Welcome to episode 222 where we pull another one forward…an episode all about how being real is necessary if we want to be assertive.

In episode 98, we discuss how being brave means risking being open, being honest, confronting, setting limits with others and asking for what we need. The ability to do these things is crucial if we want to have healthy relationships. We explore how to be assertive means to be genuine and therefore emotionally honest. It's the best way but not always the easiest nor is it always well received, mostly by people who themselves are afraid to be open. But we know we can't be truly confident without it. We know we can't negotiate needs and create trust without it. And we know we can't grow unless we get real. With ourselves, and with others.

    Key Elements:

    · Discuss how fear is at the core of avoiding honesty.

    · Look at four key areas we need to work on that comprise emotional honesty.

    · Describe ways you want to come across, contrasted with how we hope no one describes us.

    Being emotionally honest takes

    commitment, practice, screwing it up,

    getting better at it and

incorporating it into who you are.

Eventually it will be HOW you operate,

    and being anything else

    but will feel awkward

    and dishonest.

  • EP220 Podcast Archive: Episode 115 - Negotiating in the Moment. Creating Agreements to Create Trust

Welcome to Episode 220 where we grab another one from the vault that focuses on the importance of creating agreements to have trust in our relationships.

In this episode we talk about how healthy negotiating requires us to work on letting go of control and allow others to choose for themselves, while we just keep our stuff about us. That's the magic of boundaries and detachment. That allows us to hold onto our truth and allow others to do the same. It can also mean not trying to change things, change them, or other fear-based behaviors that keep us from being vulnerable. To build emotional trust, have mature and loving relationships, and to be great parents, letting go and negotiating is crucial.

    Key Elements:

    · Revisit the concepts of boundaries and detachment as crucial to negotiating needs.

    · Explore how agreements can make or break trust in your relationships.

    · Discuss typical scenarios where we might need to put our skills to the test.

When you first work on detachment

you won't like it. Because it means letting

go of outcomes, which can feel so scary.

It means trusting that even if

YOU aren't in charge, things will be ok.

  • EP219 Bringing it Back: EP113 What We Learned and Didn't About Negotiating

Welcome to Episode 219 where we grab another one from the vault that's all about how to negotiate what we need.

In this episode we explore how important it is to know how to negotiate needs in healthy ways, so that we can enjoy strong connections with those we care about, problem-solve and resolve conflict without hurting the trust in the relationship.

We identified how our families were our first classrooms where we either learned how to ask for what we need in healthy ways – or not, since they taught us what they knew, and modeled how to handle conflict – and life. From witnessing passive-aggressive behavior, emotional immaturity and maybe even violence, to the other end where nothing was confronted or dealt with in front of the kids, so they never learned how.

Being able to negotiate is so much more than asking for a lower price on a car. It requires having good boundaries, the ability to detach and grieve, and decent self-esteem. That's why when work on this, we work on so much more.

    Key Elements:

    · Identify unhealthy coping mechanisms families can pass on to their children.

    · Look at what a healthy enough family was supposed to provide for you.

    · Address ways you can begin looking at your own struggles around boundaries, grief work and self-esteem.

Working on boundaries, grieving and self-esteem

reap huge benefits in so many areas of our lives,

from relationships to career to parenting - to simply

feeling and being more confident and happier.

What price would you pay for all that?
