Ozone Nightmare

Today on the 5: Roguelites are a genre of video game that I have not historically had much interest in. I've tried a few, and whiler I see the appeal of the games, none have really connected with me. That might change in a big way when Carmageddon: Rogue Shift comes out!

Today on the 5: As someone who wanders across various sites that cover movies and television, one of the recurring review subjects right now is IT: Welcome To Derry. Most of the articles feature pictures of the central villain, Pennywise The Dancing Clown. Every time I see them, it reminds me why I think this new version of the character is an example of terrible character design.

Today on the 5: For one of our commentary films this week, Lando and I revisited a sequel neither of us had watched in a long while, 1985's A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. A movie that fell under the shadow of the movies that followed, this one is a lot better than most give it credit for.

Today on the 5: One of our commentary films for this week is Supercop, a Jackie Chan film co-starring Michelle Yeoh. It's certainly a fun enough movie, but after watching so many top level action films, this film is just a bit short in that department.

Today on the 5: Over on Bluesky, writer Mike Elgan asked this question: "What are gamers' tolerance for AI-generated content?" in reference to potential AI slop in Fortnite. While I can't answer for anyone else, I know why I'm concerned about it.

Today on the 5: For one of our commentary movies this week, Lando randomly selected 1988's The Inspector Wears Skirts, a Hong Kong action comedy. I was pretty sure I'd enjoy it because Cynthia Rothrock is in it, but I'm happy to report that we both ended up having a great time with this movie!

Today on the 5: In memory of the magnificent actor Udo Kier, Lando selected 1973's Flesh For Frankenstein as one of our commentary films. The film is a well known trash classic, but the elements that created that notoriety were not enough to sustain the movie for me.

Tonight I'm joined again by Doug Bielmeier, teaching professor, musician, and host of The Process for another Late Night Double Feature! In this episode we're talking about a pair of David Lynch films, Lost Highway & Inland Empire. Two movies centered around identity and warped realities, this pairing offers both an introduction to Lynch and a head first plunge into the deep end of his way of telling stories.
