Ozone Nightmare

Today on rhe 5: Thanks to a listener suggestiuon, Lando and I watched a movie that we had both somehow missed from 2021 titled Zone 414. If you only went by the first 15 minutes and a lot of user revfiews, you'd likely write it off as a low budget Blade Runner clone. Stick with it, because it becomes it's own thing pretty quickly.

Today on the 5: You may remember there was a kerfuffle a little while back over the use of AI tools in correcting the language deficiencies in the film The Brutalist. There were even calls for the film should be disqualified from Oscars consideration. Honestly, I feel like the negative reactions in this case are misguided.

Today on the 5: Multiple reports indicate that Apple is delaying some of the more complex aspects of their Apple Intelligence product. As you'd expect, a lot of reactions to this are flying around but two make the most sense to me.

Today on the 5: Kojima Productions released a new trailer for the upcoming Death Stranding 2 this week, and it was every bit as weird and entrancing as I hoped. I was ready to go ahead and make an exception to my usual "no pre-order policy" in this case, and then I noticed a detail that killed that idea immediately.

Today on the 5: Lando and I watched another film togther over the weekend. We chose the highly divisive 2024 film Megalopolis. It's both fairly straightforward and wildly artistic. It's easy to see why the reaction to it has been all over the place.

Today on the 5: I came across a Japanese animated film that had a unique premise. 1986's Arion takes many of the classic Greek mythology figures we're familiar with and dials up the dramatic twists and turns their interpersonal relationships take. I loved it!

Today on the 5: I recently picked up the Blu-Ray for Return Of The Living Dead III, a really fun and different take on a zombie film that Lando and I just talked about. One of the things I was looking forward to was the commentary track with Melinda Clarke, and I really wish it had not been ruined by an obnoxious secondary speaker.

Today on the 5: Most of the time in our lives, we should consider impulsive actions with a default position of restraint. From time to time, however, you should break out oif that restraint and act on the impluse. That's right, this 5 is about a pair of sunglasses!
