The Padres offense came alive in a major way, exploding for 7 runs on 11 hits to snap their 4-game losing streak, move to within a half game of the Giants and remain 1 1/2  games behind the 1st-place Dodgers.

The Padres scored 6 of their 7 runs with 2 outs, and went 5-9 with runners in scoring position. These 2 areas have killed them recently, as they’d just lost 8 of their last 11 to fall behind the Dodgers and the Giants in the NL West.

But the reinforcements finally started coming tonight, with Luis Arraez and Jason Heyward returning from injuries to bolster a struggling lineup, and boy did they ever.

Arraez went 1-3 with an RBI, and Heyward had 2 hits.

Xander Bogaerts went 3-4- including a 2-run home run, his 1st of the season- to lead the Padres attack.

Manny Machado had 2 hits and an RBJ, and Elias Diaz had 2 hits.

Bogaerts got the Pads in the board with 2 out, RBI single in the 1st inning, and Jose Iglesias followed with a 2-run single to make it 3-0.

Nick Pivetta improved to 5-1 for San Diego, allowing 3 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings while striking out 9.

Jason Adam struck out the side in the 8th, and Robert Suarez needed only 6 pitches to record his 11th save of the season.

The attendance of 47,345 was the 2nd largest all-time crowd at Petco and the 25th sellout of the season so far.
