Manny Machado ripped a 2-run double and Xander Bogaerts followed with a bullet for a 2-run single right after Luis Arraez walked- and just like that the Pads had turned their night completely around.

Robert Suarez pitched the 9th to pick up his MLB-leading 14th save.

Ryan Bergert (1-0) got his 1st MLB win with a hitless 7th in back of starter Nick Pivetta, (5-1) who gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits in 5 innings of work.

New York starter Carlos Rodón allowed just 3 hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings, leaving in the 7th with a 3-0 lead.

The Yanks took the lead on Trent Grisham’s 2-run homer in the 3rd, and added another run on Anthony Volpe’s sacrifice fly in the 6th to make it 3-0.

The Padres (23-11) have won 6 games in a row and swept 2 straight series.

The game started about a half hour late because of rain, and there was another half an hour delay with 2 outs in the bottom of the 4th.
