Gavin Sheets crushed a 3-run go-ahead home run, the bullpen worked 4 2/3 scoreless innings and the San Diego Padres rallied from 3-0 and 4-1 holes to come back and beat the Cincinnati Reds 6-4 in Cincy.

After the Padres were no-hit for 8 innings last night, their bats woke up against the Cincinnati bullpen.

Jake Cronenworth  went deep in the 6th with a 2-run shot that got San Diego within 4-3. Sheets then made it 6-4 with a monstrous blast to right-center to give the Pads their 1st and only lead of the game.

Bryan Hoeing (1-0) pitched an inning and 2/3 of scoreless baseball in relief of Randy Vasquez, who was roughed up by the Reds. Vasquez gave up 4 earned runs on 9 hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Closer Robert Suarez got out of his own jam in the bottom of the 9th to pick up his 23rd save. Suarez walked 2 hitters before striking out   Spencer Steer on nothing but 100+ mile an hour fastballs to end the game. Steer hit three homers on Friday.

Jason Adam worked a perfect 8th, striking out 2, and Adrian Morejon pitched a perfect 7th.

Sheets finished 3-for-5 with 2 doubles and saved a run with a sensational diving catch to rob Rece Hinds in the 5th.

Cronenworth's 7th homer of the year woke up the Pads’ bats after they had scored just 3 runs in 25 innings.

Andrew Abbott was great for the Reds. He left the game with a 4-1 lead after 5 innings, allowing just Areaez’s solo home run in the 5th.

The Padres and Reds finish up this 3-game series tomorrow, with 1st pitch at 10:10am PT.

Padres RHP Stephen Kolek (3-3, 3.95 ERA) opposes Reds LHP Nick Lodolo (5-5, 3.63) as the series concludes Sunday.
