Nestor Cortez gave up 3 home runs in the first inning, as the Giants jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on late for a 4-3 win that gives the Padres their 4th loss in a row.

The last 3 Padres’ starters- Cortes, Yu Darvish & Dylan Cease- have given up a total of 11 1st-inning runs over the last 3 games, all losses. The Pads have come back and made the games close, but they have just not been able to overcome their starters’ meltdowns.

Manager Mike Schildt was ejected from the game in the 2nd inning after Xander Bogaerts‘ home run was overturned to fan interference on instant replay. Schildt came out to argue the call, which is an automatic ejection because you cannot argue against replay.

Robbie Ray was cruising for the Giants, until the Padres scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, the big hit a 2-run homer off the bat of Ryan O’Hearn, who hasn’t been playing against lefties for some unknown reason.O’Hearn didn’t start tonight’s game, entering only after Jake Cronenworth left after being hit by a pitch in the 4th inning. O’Hearn finally played 1st base, with Luis Arraez moving over to 2nd, just like I’ve been saying all along.
