Panda's Talking Games

Sometimes, life comes at you fast — and then sometimes you also get to go on vacation! Today’s episode is a chit chat (not our standard format), but we are back from vacation. We talk Cortex Prime and putting together Solar Legacy, as well as chilling in Denver.

Show us how you like your mini campaigns (again)! We talked about mini campaigns pretty recently (check out 268) but we still had this question sitting in the backlog — we’ll take any excuse. In this episode, pros and cons of mini campaigns vs. full campaigns.

Phil and Senda are flying with no show notes and no topic! If this is your first intro to our show, this is not our normal format. You may want to grab a show that is not a chit chat to get an idea for how we usually run things around here.

Giving us life: RRR, Ms. Marvel & Whose Line Is It Anyway

Giving us game life: Self realizations of what Phil gets out of GMing; Brindlewood Bay session 0 and improv style gaming

ALSO! There will be no show next week to accommodate for summer vacations. We’ll be back the following Wednesday!

Show us how you manage a player/GM conspiracy at the table! Phil and Senda use a cautionary tale of Phil’s GMing past to illustrate some potential pitfalls and how you might avoid them.

Show us how you manage treating (or bribing) at your game table! Today’s episode had some serious time constraints. Also, welcome to Wednesdays!

This podcast supports the bodily autonomy of all womb bearing people. We may talk about consent and agency in gaming, but it applies just as much to our real selves as it does to our characters. We did not talk about this in the episode because the change is still too overwhelming and emotional to address with care. Be safe out there, friends.

Show us how you handle mistakes at the table! Phil and Senda talk about managing significant mistakes (not minor, and not big like a safety break) at the table, and a thought process for deciding how to handle them.

AN ANNOUNCEMENT: This is the last week we’re going to drop on a Monday! We are going to move our drop day to Wednesdays going forward as Mondays seem to be a fail point for me to edit in time.

Show us how you analyze media as if it were a game! Phil and Senda talk about consuming stories in other mediums as if they were games, and how you can use it to practice thinking like a GM or player within the mechanics of the system you are playing. Also, it’s not late if it’s still Monday when I hit post, right? Right?? An announcement will be coming soon about an adjustment to our release schedule since Mondays are suddenly hard for me to nail. (Spoilers: Wednesdays, anyone?)

On today’s episode, Phil and Senda talk about failing forward, how it differs from success with consequence or complication, and using it in your game!

How do you tell if you’re talking about failing forward or success with consequence? Here’s an example: I failed to post this episode on time. My intent here was to post the episode. Based on this intent, I have succeeded at posting the episode, with a consequence (it’s late). Sigh. In other news, expect an update about our release date soon, as the turn around from Saturday to posting Sunday has been reducing my success rate at this significantly.

A bit late for the US holiday, but better late than never! Phil and Senda are having a chit chat as scheduling was very up in the air this last week. We talk what’s giving us life in gaming and what’s giving us life outside of gaming, mostly about Senda’s recent trip out to Buffalo. If this is your first episode of Panda’s Talking Games, this is not our standard format!
