  • Is Striking Vipers Gay? — Papa’s Basement 600
My cohosts for the episode, Eva Kriksciun and Hannah Wiers, stealing the "fake having a singular chin" pose I employ for photographs.

The 600th episode of Papa's Basement explores what A Star Is Born would have been like had Bradley Cooper been a food addict instead of an alkie, and if the activities depicted in Black Mirror's Striking Vipers episode count as "gay," "not so gay," or "gay as a mf." Let us know how you feel via email, Twitter, whatever, and we'll read it out on the next episode. Also, to anyone listening to this episode, thank you. Doing 600 episodes of this show wasn’t easy. If it weren’t for listeners, I would have stopped ages ago. Because, as fun as it is to do something, not doing something is way better.

  • America’s Best Sandwich — Papa’s Basement 599
Good sandwich bread is like a good football coach: Crusty on the outside, warm and soft on the inside, and covered in a thin layer of yeast that they just can't get rid of.

I'm not going to get clever with the description, as this is far too important a topic to trivialize. With the help of our listeners, we list off America's best sandwiches, both homemade and restaurant-created, and debate just what goes into a perfect sandwich. After recording this episode, my only goal in life now is to eat everything mentioned therein. May the cholesterol levels be forever in my favor.

  • The Funniest Funny Songs Ever — Papa’s Basement 598
This is my preferred lineup of Tenacious D, before Jack Black left (or was kicked out, depending on which side you believe) and replaced by Sammy Hagar.

Personal opinion: Most funny songs aren't actually funny. I don't know what it is, but comedy tends to go with music the way cats go with a seafood buffet: Two things I love, but then the cats get into your shrimp, and it's a whole thing. But, occasionally, comedy and music get it just right, like a seafood buffet with an appropriate amount of cat shields. Today, I'm joined by Brian Duss, Bizzy Fain and Yancey Burns, all stalwarts of DC's comedy scene, to discuss our picks for funny songs that are actually funny. So, not only do you get a funny podcast, you then get to seek out the funny songs we mention afterward. Play your cards right, and you won't get a damn thing done today.

Did we leave your favorite song off the list? Then call us pieces of crap and tell us what we forgot via our social media handles. It wouldn't be fair if only my mom got to tell me how flawed my choices in life are! We'll mention your picks on-air in future episodes.

Image of me and Joe Gagliardi, at the ready to take down a perceived threat. Photo courtesy of Shawn Westfall.

Hear the fantastic story of John Papageorgiou and co-host Joe Gagliardi getting into it with a deranged homophobe in DC's famed gay district, Dupont Circle. If you think it would be funny getting homophobic hate speech screamed at you when you're straight, well, IT IS!! Comedian Mikael Johnson's also in studio, that suave, swarthy bastard.

  • Mikael Johnson’s Secrets to Life — Papa’s Basement 596
Secret number seven: sometimes, all you need to turn around a bad day is a good sundae!

DC-area comedy mainstay Mikael Johnson swings by the show to tell us all the wisdom he’s gained from a life of playing baseball, performing improv, and breaking hearts. Oh, and we discuss the most common and outrageous urban legends from our youths. I remember that. I actually remember something from an episode of my show and am not just making this description up on the spot days later. MATURITY!!!

You can also catch Mikael performing with other friends of the show, including his improv troupe with Shawn Westfall, named "Shawn Mikaels," and modeling for Mike Sacks's "Randy" book, now also a podcast on Stitcher.

  • Roatán Vacation / Nerd Weekend 2019 — Papa’s Basement 595
An in memoriam picture of the shark Bill killed in self-defense by forming a tight seal with his lips around its vagina and blowing air in it during his vacation to Roatán.

Co-host Bill talks his action-packed vacation to the island of Roatán, nerds rejoice as a 48 hour span sees the release of Avengers: Endgame, the final battle with Game of Thrones' Night King, the end of the Magic: the Gathering's Nicol Bolas saga and the NFL draft (we real nerds draw our inspiration from many fonts, sir). Oh, and we play a game called "what would your exes think of you?" I would assume they'd all say I hurt (in a good way), but that's just me.
