Paratalk Podcast

In this episode of Paratalk, I’m joined by Roy Teague, author of Close Encounters of the Police Kind.

Roy has spent years collecting accounts from serving and former UK police officers who have experienced strange and unexplained encounters. We talk about some of the cases featured in his book, why police officers may be reluctant to speak about unusual experiences, and whether their training and professional background makes them particularly interesting witnesses.

A fascinating conversation with plenty to think about.

Have you ever stood on the edge of a cliff, a bridge, or a train platform and, for a split second, wondered... what if I jumped? If so, you're far from alone.

In this episode of ParaTalk, we explore the strange phenomenon known as The Call of the Void (l'appel du vide). Is it simply a quirk of the human brain, an instinct for survival that's easily misunderstood? Or could there be something far more mysterious at work?

The Bristol Hum is a modern acoustic mystery reported by residents across parts of the city of Bristol UK, where a low, persistent droning sound is occasionally heard with no obvious source.

Described as a distant engine or industrial vibration, the Hum is most noticeable at night and has sparked debate for years, with suggested causes ranging from distant traffic and industrial activity to infrasound, atmospheric conditions, or even psychological perception effects.

Despite investigations, no single explanation has fully accounted for all reports, leaving it as one of the UK’s more intriguing contemporary sound phenomena.

In this classic episode of Paratalk from 2012.

Gareth and I explore the mysterious phenomenon known as Earth Lights — strange glowing orbs and unexplained illuminations reported across the world for centuries. We delve into the theories behind these eerie sightings, examine a couple of unsettling real-life cases, and discuss whether these lights could be linked to geological activity, atmospheric anomalies… or something far stranger. Gareth also recounts a deeply unusual personal encounter that left a lasting impression and raises even more questions about this baffling phenomenon.

Hello everyone, and let me take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year. My apologies for the lack of episodes throughout December — work kept me extremely busy. The good news is that brand-new episodes are on their way this January.

In this episode, Phil — one of my Instagram contacts and a fellow photographer — joins me to talk about his visit to the eerie and atmospheric Hermitage Castle.

Hermitage Castle is a semi-ruined fortress set deep within Scotland’s borderlands, rising from the remote valley of the Hermitage Water in Liddesdale, Roxburghshire. Now cared for by Historic Scotland, the castle is renowned for its dark history and stark, brooding presence, earning it a reputation as one of the most sinister and atmospheric castles in the country.
