What we need to concede, however, is that the ability to control and understand these changes eludes us, thus our work is finite. The Teacher reminds us that there us that the God we serve is the One who sees and controls all that takes place in the universe, and His works endure forever.

Anoj Joseph continues our Broken series looking at Ecclesiastes 2. In this chapter, the teacher muses about the search we all have for meaning. We all are prey, to various degrees, to the pursuit of pleasure, wisdom or pride in our work. However, we see an eternal perspective here - life is finite, and our search for meaning ends in disappointment and brokenness. The chapter concludes, reminding us that our purpose is found and our only hope and joy is complete in knowing God.

Here and in these coming weeks, we realise our lives are like a vapor, or a sandcastle - here today, gone tomorrow - and we also see our desperate need for the eternal hope that comes from God alone.

Ps Gerald James shares a timely word on missions and our utter reliance on the power of God. The good news for us today is that it is Christ who changes hearts, however we would prefer to ?forget that we are called to share the gospel. While this is humanly daunting, we can be assured that God's power accompanies the preaching of His word. We can also be encouraged that we do not need eloquence, we simply need to bear witness of what God has done for us.

Rohan Arudselvam shares an encouraging word about good works. We are reminded that while our works do not save us, works are the evidence of what God has done inside of us, and they always point to Him. When we, the children of the kingdom, are busy with the work of the kingdom - we become attractive to a world that desperately needs the counter-culture of the gospel.
