  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 624 Halloween Horror-Ginger Snaps!

Happy Halloween! During the month of October Part-Time Fanboy continued its tradition of chatting about horror films during the Halloween season! Every week this month, Part-Time Fanboy welcomed some of their favorite indie creators to pick one of their favorite spooky movies and chat about it on the podcast!

For the actual day of Halloween writer Josh Eiserike (The Very Last Final Girls, Charm City, Pale of Settlement) picked the classic female empowerment werewolf movie Ginger Snaps! Brigitte and Ginger are two misunderstood teenage goth girls who exist on the fringes of high school society until one of them gets bit by a werewolf. When the lycanthrope curse erupts, it takes on a multilayered meaning for a young lady who is growing into adulthood! Kristian pulls in comic creators Dave Dwonch (Banshees, Cyrus Perkins and the Haunted Taxi Cab, The Loose End) and Ari Gross (Wardens, Upkeep, Nut Cracker) to discuss the early aughts horror movie that was a harbinger for the women's rights issues that would come to define the early 21st century.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 623 Lee Loughridge and Marz Jr. Make Superlative Comics With The Adequates!

The Adequates is a YA comic book centered around the misadventures of a group of awkward teens who have superpowers. The only problem is that the powers that they have don't necessarily align with their physical attributes. One of them can fly, but is terrified of heights. Another can move at super speed, but has asthma. All in all they are a group of kids who have the worst superpowers ever.

On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with the creators behind The Adequates, award winning colorists, writers, and artists Lee Loughridge and Marz Jr. to discuss their unique group of heroes which may be best described as what if the Rugrats grew up to become the teens from Stranger Things and had superpowers. They talk about why they wanted to dive into the YA market, the changes their idea has gone through since they came up with it back in 2000, and how they came up with the signature look of the book.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 622 Halloween Horror- When Evil Lurks!

It’s October! During the month of October Part-Time Fanboy continues its tradition of chatting about horror films during the Halloween season! Every week this month, Part-Time Fanboy welcomes some of their favorite indie creators to pick one of their favorite spooky movies and chat about it on the podcast!

We're in the final sprint towards All Hallows Eve and as we enter the last week of October, friend of the podcast and multimedia artist Phil Mucci (Orgy of the Blood Freaks, Gringo Loco) picks the Argentinian demonic possession movie, When Evil Lurks. In a world that has been hit with a plague of demonic possessions a man struggles to save himself and his family from the rotted creatures that have made their presence know in his rural community. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with Phil to chat about a horror movie that seems like your typical end of the world zombie flick until they start to notice some parallels between what happens in the film and what happened to some people's behavior during the COVID pandemic.

Writers David Accampo (City of Illusion, City of Lies; Spectral, Lost Angels), Ari Gross (Wardens, Upkeep, Nut Cracker), and PTF regular Yvis Cannavale gather around with Kristian to discuss a film that treats its teenage protagonists like three dimensional people rather than victims on a kill list and combines some of the best elements of The Monkey's Paw with The Exorcist.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 619 Michael Rhea Serves Up a Slice of Horror in Vampire Hunter Steve!

Michael Rhea is a writer who found success in children's animation. Although he'd found satisfaction in crafting scripts for children's programming, he'd always loved the horror genre. Unfortunately, the opportunity never arose to move forward with the terrifying ideas that had been percolating in his brain for so long. Then a friend suggested that he turn his terror based properties into a comic book. Thus was born Vampire Hunter Steve (currently funding on Kickstarter)...a story about a pizza delivery driver who hunts vampires. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Michael about crafting his first comic, why he made his protagonist loathe the act of killing the bloodthirsty undead, and why he thinks vampires are the most interesting creatures in the undead menagerie.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 618-Lanterns!

A little over a week ago, the finale of Lanterns aired. Lanterns was the latest entry in the new James Gunn era of the DC Comics cinematic universe. Based characters appearing in the Green Lantern series of comic books, the show took a property that was about an intergalactic police force and confined it to small town Nebraska. It was a hit from the get-go, pulling in ratings that HBO/MAX had never seen before for its streaming service, but comic book fans were divided. Some loved the hard edged detective story that pitted John Stewart against Hal Jordan and others bemoaned the scope the series had restricted itself to.

This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian sits down with Green Lantern fans Keith Howell, Joe Slepski (of the Joe on Joe podcast), and Yvis Cannavle to discuss what they thought about the latest entry in the cosmic ring slinger mythos. Is Lanterns a unique and interesting take on DC's Green Lantern Corps or is it just a mean spirited, cynical adaptation of the property?

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 617 Jeremy Whitley Crafts a Bittersweet Finale in Navigating With You, Volume Two!

Navigating With You was one of Kristian's favorite comics of 2024. The first volume told the tale of two teenage girls who were new to their high school developing a romance through their shared love of manga. In volume two of Navigating With You (available on November 24th from the Maverick imprint of Mad Cave Studios), the protagonists of the story find themselves having to work through a long distance relationship as one of them has had to move away. The story that unfolds is that of two people who care for each other discovering that being physically apart is harder than anticipated. On this episode of the podcast, Kristian chats with Jeremy Whitley, the creator of Navigating With You, about why there was more story to tell after the first book and how he shaped his examination of long distance relationships in the second volume.

Last year Yvis brought Amityville II: The Possession to the PTF haunted house. This year he continues to spook up Amityville goodness (or badness) by introducing the third movie in the haunted house franchise. • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 615 Halloween Horror-Motel Hell!

October is here! During the month of October Part-Time Fanboy continues its tradition of chatting about horror films during the Halloween season! Every week this month, Part-Time Fanboy welcomes some of their favorite indie creators to pick one of their favorite spooky movies and chat about it on the podcast!

This week, friend of the podcast and horror writer/critic, Mark L. Miller picks the 1980 cannibal classic, Motel Hell!

Motel Hell tells the story of Famer Vincent Smith and his sister Nancy, who run a motel but are also regionally known for the quality of the meat they sell on their farm. When a biker couple gets into an "accident" nearby, the Smiths takes in the young lady who survives the crash and attempt to assimilate her into their clan. But as she gets closer to the family, it soon becomes clear that the secret to their tasty meat is more sinister than anyone could have ever suspected!

Kristian joins Mark, podcaster Joe Slepski (of the Joe on Joe Podcast), and writer Travis Webb (Starlite) to dig into a film which is one part Psycho, one part Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and could in some ways be a bizarre prequel to Soylent Green!
