  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 464 Casey Allen Sends Sasquatch to Feudal Japan in Bigfoot Knows Karate-Hinagon!

Casey Allen is a former musician who’d always loved comics. He’d stopped collecting for a while until he was working for a moving company which just happened to be a couple of blocks away from a comic shop. On a whim, he went into the shop and found his passion for comics re-ignited. After that he became involved with a website called The Comic Jam…which gathers creators of all kinds to create short-form comics just because they love making sequential art. Through that site he met Dan Price and together they started co-writing a book called Bigfoot Knows Karate…a slam bang comic book about a Sasquatch who walks the Earth, has adventures, and fights creatures with names like Kung Fu’thulhu! This week saw the debut of the latest chapter in the BKK saga on Kickstarter. It’s a one shot spinoff which finds the missing link in feudal Japan called Bigfoot Knows Karate: Hinagon! On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Casey about how he became the co-writer of Bigfoot Knows Karate and how he stepped forward to become main writer on this chapter of Bigfoot’s adventures!

The Diablok Double Feature is currently funding its second issue on Kickstarter. On this episode of the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian chats with Phil about the importance of the gorgeous cover art he’s commissioned for his books, why horror fandom seems to be more open to new properties than comic book fans, and how the cultural landscape has changed from the days when they first got into collecting comics and watching movies.

  • Part-Time Fanboy Podcast: Ep 462 Rory J. Collins Sows the Seeds of Original Sci-Fi with Arks Proximan on Kickstarter!

ARKS is a science fiction series which Kristian considers to be the craziest, most original, and most compelling comic book story he’s read in a long, long time. Built around the complex idea of abiogenesis, ARKS details the “journey” of two interstellar space travelers from Earth who have been commissioned with traversing the stars and setting up a human colony on another planet. The voyagers in ARKS, however, are pioneers unlike any ever seen in the pages of a graphic novel. ARKS tells the story of the Adam/Eve/Lilith myth through a warped lens which presents a completely different kind of sci-fi tale. ARKS: Proximan is the latest chapter in the ARKS saga. It’s a spinoff of the original series and its Kickstarter campaign launches today. This week on the Part-Time Fanboy podcast, Kristian crosses the pond once again to chat with UK storyboard artist, Rory J. Collins, to talk about the genesis of his incredibly unique sci-fi story. They talk about how he came up with the idea, how he was able to explore and express complex scientific concepts in his comic, and how he broke down the notions in ARKS to the artists who helped him illustrate the story.
