Pat & Jon on Their Best Behavior episodes

  • Ep. 31: Dave Matthews Before Dishonor [w/ Sara Potocsny]

Well, it happened. Your fearless (or fearful) hosts go to the dark side and hang with good ol' Dave. The lads are guided by poet, musician, and Syracuse MFA candidate Sara Potocsny, who leads them through a land of lush acoustics, shredding violin, and absolute-nonsense yet beautiful lyrics. What does taste have to do with it? Who decides what good taste is? Pat is still mad at kids from his prep school.

Check out Sara on Instagram (@spotocsny) and Twitter (@sarapotocsny), and check out her new poem published in Hobart: https://www.hobartpulp.com/web_features/pool.

  • Ep. 30: Mank-y? More Like Pat-ty & Jon-ny [w/ Rishi Sethi]

(This episode was recorded in black-and-white.) Recorded mere minutes after the Steelers lost to a team with no mascot, the boys are joined by their stalwart Fincher correspondent Rishi Sethi to discuss David Fincher’s new film Mank. They discuss Fincher’s move to sentimentality, the film's witty dialogue, and they even have a rousing discussion about fact versus fiction in art and storytelling. Disclaimer: Jon takes back everything he said about the Royal Family.

  • Ep. 29: Which Fork to Use?: An Elegy for "Hillbilly Elegy" [w/ Allie Hoback]

Strap in, 'cuz Pat and Jon brought prepared jokes! The boys and their Appalachian correspondent Allie Hoback tackle the awful mess that is the movie Hillbilly Elegy—as well as the book that inspired it. Jon despises J.D. Vance's politics, Allie despises the depiction of Appalachia, and Pat despises the fact that J.D. has a hot girlfriend. Hedge funds forever!

  • Ep. 28: Pat Finally Watches Paddington (or, Pat & Jon Play Catch Up: Round 2)

Happy Maskgiving! To celebrate Pat not having Statistics class for a few days, the lads have convened to do another round of “Pat & Jon Play Catch Up." Jon becomes acquainted with Clive Owen and Alfonso Cuarón, Pat hangs out with a furry Englishman, and they both praise a certain Chicagoan in exile. Why all the riddles? Don’t worry about it, they’re in grad school.

  • Ep. 27: The "Mamma Mia!" Cinematic Universe [w/ Kev Berry]

The duo packs their bags and head to Greece (illegally, since Jon doesn’t have a passport) to join their good friend Kev Berry (playwright/performer) to talk about the one-two punch of the movie Mamma Mia! and its 2018 sequel. They talk the majesty of Meryl, the insanity of the plot, and their favorite songs. In the words of their esteemed guest: "The Godfather crawled so Mamma Mia! could fly.”

Book your tickets for Kev's show "Harsh Cacophonies" (11/13 & 11/14) at thetanknyc.org/harshcacophonies and follow Kev on Instagram (@kevgoshdarn).

  • Ep. 26: "Shampoo" and Election Day 2020 (Yuck!)

Pat and Jon start off by pontificating about the state of entertainment and culture under Trump (*rolls eyes*). They then jump into Hal Ashby’s 1975 film Shampoo, a timely tale that takes place on the day of the 1968 election. They discuss the tragedy of Warren Beatty’s character, the psychology of the 60s (even though they were born in the 90s), and the wonderful duo of Goldie Hawn and Julie Christie (the more improved Pat and Jon).

  • Ep. 25: Adam Sandler Is Many Dads [w/ Collin Spinney]

“You wanna listen to one of our episodes? Or fucking 30?!” Pat and Jon are joined by Collin Spinney, Jon’s good pal from New Hampshire, to talk all things The Sandman. They discuss Big Daddy, Click, and Uncut Gems in an exploration of all the different types of fathers played by Adam Sandler. Also, Collin and Jon teach Pat about New Hampshire, Jon gets mad about Click, and there’s plenty of gushing over Uncut Gems. Disclaimer: Pat is not going on online sports books at this time.

  • Ep. 24: Sufjan Stevens? More Like SufJON LEMAY! [w/ Sophie van Waardenberg & Gracie Francis]

Get the tissues and prepare to play the Jon Lemay Drinking Game. The guys are joined by Jon’s classmate Sophie van Waardenberg (a poet and MFA candidate at Syracuse) and her partner Gracie Francis (a pianist and Master's student at Juilliard) to talk about Sufjan’s 2015 classic album Carrie & Lowell. They talk Christian upbringings, lying about liking certain music in order to impress crushes, and theories about Sufjan’s sexuality—and Pat can’t help himself but sing along.

  • Ep. 23: The Social(ly Distant) Network [w/ Rishi Sethi]

Lights! Camera! Pat gives David Fincher a walkie talkie! The Social Network is ten years old, and to celebrate, the guys are joined by filmmaker and educator Rishi Sethi to talk all things Zuck and Finch. After a rousing discussion about how well the film has aged—as well as THAT breakup scene—Pat and Jon take some special listener calls to decide which of them is Mark and which of them is Eduardo. This podcast is brought to you by stalking your ex's new partner on Facebook.

  • Ep. 22: (Grad) School of Rock [w/ Sam Houle]

Do you wanna be the teacher’s pet? (Because Pat insisted on being one every year of his childhood). The lads are joined by Pat’s new pal Sam Houle to talk Richard Linklater’s School of Rock. Watching this 2003 masterpiece was a seminal work in the lives of Sam, Pat, and Jon, and each of them have much to say about Jack Black and growing up with classic rock. Also, Sam puts Pat's and Jon's monologue game to shame, Jon discusses a Christian documentary that scarred him as a child, and Pat is forced to listen to showtunes. Rock on (respectfully).
