  • Tightly bound

    Tightly bound

    Yet unwound

    All in one

    Like the sound

    Of a drum

    Jazz rhythm hits

    And tension’s undone

    Sip by sip

    Completely eclipsed

    As you run

    Trying to catch your heart

    But it’s beating too fast

    Even with a head start

    You’re coming in last

    So tired, yet wired

    With love in the lead

    And body retired

Every move is just a motion

    You can’t stop

    The emotion

    Like waves, in the ocean

    Never crashing

    Just rising, and coasting

    You are the sun

    Never roasting

    With endless energy

    Full and hoping

    Unreal, but it’s real

    You’re grounded

    All in one, unwound

    Yet

    Tightly bound

  • Better every day

Better every dayI feel it, stuck in this painIn this space, in this placeI’m seeing straight, nowGetting what I needI believe in the powerOf slow, attentionAs the hours go

Did I mentionThat my intention growsWith the fire of healing

Five time to the fifth dimensionMy spirit rising from the trenchesOf working on my dreamsMy passion relentless

Stitched in every seamThe fabric’s fitting, flashingI fashioned my path to the processOf having what’s next in my hand

From the second it glistens out the lightThat’s living in the beat of my heartA dog without the need to barkI am

    Better every day

…Maybe you can hear it in the recording. It’s hard to control my breath, I’m popping my Ps a little too much.

Six broken ribs. It’d been six days yesterday when I wrote and recorded this. Some initial pain started lifting. I started seeing clearer. Becoming at ease with the process of healing, even if it strips me of continuing to engage in the evolution of a successful life as I see it.

Slow is good. Healing is inspiration. Passion is motivation.

  • Painting the Sky – poem and a cappella

Painting the skyThis grand giftThe eye

Making magic of sightWith the colors so brightThe beautyStops meAnd starts me up, I seeThe most magnificent wonders

Right under our noseThe easy stones, to turn overWe think we knowBy name and labelMinimized by mindIt’s time

To measure the small as the greatestTo move, from jaded to celebratedWe waited, long enoughWith all this potential bubbling upWe all superhumanNow use it

The eyeThis grand giftPainting the sky

    Reflection

You ever wake up and the world looks brighter? Or you just pause and take a minute to realize how amazing it is we can see such colors and wonders out of these delicate balls in our face?

I wrote this piece on one of those mornings, pausing with the sun swooping in from a deep blue sky, shadows dropping on my wall as birds soared by.

It’s nice to remember how lucky we are by recognizing the crazy beauty and value in so many things we take for total granted.

So here’s to sight and really seeing.

  • Kicking Alive

My soul and spirit kickingIn the womb of lifeGrowing pains, passing 30Staying sane, it’s normal right

But I feel insideLike when a baby criesThat all my thoughts and dreamsAre caught in a scheme

Unable to talkJust crawling and climbingSearching for the top

With eyes illuminatedOf a child generatedBy the stars

Seeing far beyond the galaxiesTruth, that’s cutting through the fallacies

Shining like your majestyBut just a peasant glad to see

The light, the sparkThe twinkle in those endless eyes

    The soul and spiritKicking alive

    Reflection

At age 33 with a good job and a mortgage on a good place in a good city, all should be well. But my soul and spirit are kicking inside. I want more out of this life, even if it looks like less.

Yet here am I am with these thoughts incubating for a year. I’m leaning into forward change but not going anywhere, and not getting any younger.

How do you talk to a system that doesn’t speak the language of life?

You don’t. You stay true and keep up on the vision. The twinkle in those endless eyes is all you need.

If your soul and spirit are kicking alive, good. You’re awake. Run with that and you’ll find your freedom.

  • Quiet In Strength

So here in silenceI sit, and wonderMaybe a musical riffTo help my mind go under

Beyond the surfaceSchemingInto the blueCreative dreaming

ConnectedThis life electricIs meaning moreFrom soul to gold

Truth be toldThe age-old wisdomQuiet in strengthStarting to think

Inside you hideYou’ll seeThe whole world aliveIn silence

    Reflection

We’re surrounded by noise. Bouncing from screen to screen, scroll to scroll, meeting to meeting. Ads, articles and others all vying for our attention.

Noise pollution takes on new meaning in the age of digital consumption. As does the age-old wisdom that drove the first monks into solitude: Silence rejuvenates. Quiet brings us into strength.

I wrote this piece Monday morning before starting work, appreciating the moment. Now it’s Sunday and shoot, it was a tiring week full of noise.

The more noise we let in our lives, the more important it is to consistently seek pockets of silence. Otherwise you adapt to the noise. And normalizing it can knock you out later.

Adapting to noise desensitizes you to what it really feels like to be a healthy human. Silence reconnects and rewires you to your natural system.

Inside you hide, you’ll see. The whole world alive, in silence.
