Pencil Us In

It's Love Month!  We're gonna cover stuff about love!  Well, mostly just couples or romances that we think are noteworthy.  We begin the month with Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)  I'm pretty sure all those exclamation points are totally necessary.

What do you think?  Do you have something to say?  Wanna tell us what you think of our current topic?  Have other things to say about other topics?  Wanna tell us some sweet recipes for cookies (please)?  Let us know!  We have social medias!  If you see the deranged pencil, you're in the right place!  I also check my email now!  I promise!  You could also give us a rating and comment on your favorite podcast aggregator!  Talk to us!

So, what comics were we reading this week?  Find out!

 Ore Monogatari!! (My Love Story!!)
You can find this one on the Viz website for an English translation.  Su highly recommends!  Don't pirate!

In which we discuss, I think, the most important book(s) of George Pérez's lengthy career.  You're not getting just one book, either!  You're getting two!  Which ones?  Well, that's actually kinda obvious.  We're talking about the 1998 Avengers relaunch.  You know, that one that said "HEROES RETURN"?  We're also talking about the logical followup in terms of epic scope: JLA/Avengers!  Join our discussion!

Modern Masters George Pérez (TwoMorrows Publishing)

This was a whole mess of good comics this month.  Do yourself a favor and read these books!

Avengers vol 3 (Marvel): 0-34 (Yes, there was a 0 issue.  It was packed in with an issue of Wizard Magazine back in the day)
JLA/Avengers (DC/Marvel): 1-4 (The book would switch titles every other issue so #1 was JLA/Avengers while #2 was Avengers/JLA and so on)

In which we discuss our big topic of George Pérez!  It's Wonder Woman!

It's still George Pérez month!  We're gonna take the next logical step and cover the next long project of the illustrious artist's career.  We of course speak of Wonder Woman (spoiler??).  So, join us as we discuss one of the most important chapters of the Amazonian's decades-long career!

It's George Pérez Month!  We're gonna talk about the biggest and longest-lasting hit of George's career, the New Teen Titans!

That's right, we're here to talk about a big one that's still affecting pop culture to this day.  Multiple cartoons, tv shows, and even movies have spawned from this enterprise.  Here we'll talk about this famous work alongside long-time collaborator Marv Wolfman!

Books read for this episode:
Marvel Team-Up (Marvel): 1
DC Christmas with the Superheroes: 2 (Forgot to mention the creators on that Deadman story.  It was Alan Brennert and Dick Giordano)
Sailor Moon (TokyoPop): vol 11 (Basically the whole book)

Well, the episode was on time, but not the episode description!  SHOCKING.  Sorry about that!

Anyway, we're discussing everyone's favorite Japanese merch juggernaut, Pokemon!  Well, it's probably everyone's favorite.  Most of the time.  It's mine, anyway!

So what do you think of Merch Month?  Having fun?  Awash in nostalgia?  Do you have some toy or something you'd like to talk about?  Remember we're talking childrens' toys.  Tell us!  Social media!  Email!  Uh...shout in to the ether...?

So what did we read?
Pokemon Adventures (Viz Media): 1-5

In which we discuss one of the other enormous phenomenons of the 80s, the Masters of the Universe line from Mattel!  We're specifically talking about the mini comics that came with each action figure.  Are you old enough to remember these bad boys?  I owned 'em, but I don't remember most of 'em!

What do you think?  Did you have a favorite Masters figure?  Did you enjoy this episode?  Do you like Merch Month?  TELL US.  PLEASE.  WE ARE DESPERATE PEOPLE.  Hit us up on the social medias or maybe just email us!  We don't care, just say something!  The holidays are here and we're so alone...

Phil here:  This ended up not being as interesting as I figured on.  Go figure.  Action figure??  GET IT??  Again, we're so alone...Anyway, there wasn't as much on this floating around as I woulda uh...figured either.  I did find a short article in one of my favorite mags, Back Issue, though.  And the hardcover collection we read from had some useful info, too!  Let's discuss!

Research sources:

Back Issue (TwoMorrows Publishing): 16

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Minicomic Collection (Dark Horse)

So, how did we read these mini comics?  Uh...

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Minicomic Collection (Dark Horse)

Yeah, pretty straightforward.  Anyway, enjoy the encroaching freeze!

In which we talk about one of the biggest comics of the 80s, GI Joe!  We landed on the idea for doing a merch month so this one immediately came to mind.  We couldn't pass it up!  And it's actually good!

What do you think?  Did you have a favorite GI Joe?  Do you have any comments on the show in general?  You should tell us!  We has the medias of social!  We has an email or something!  Talk to us!

Phil here:  Interestingly, I didn't have to look hard for sources on this cuz it was friggin popular!  I guess especially after those couple movies came out that nobody liked or saw?  Anyway, here's what all I read/watched.

The Toys That Made Us (Netflix)

Back Issue (TwoMorrows Publishing): 16

I'm reasonably sure I read or saw something else but I suck and forgot to write everything down.  Those two are the biggest sources I used, though.

What did we read issue-wise?  That would be:
G.I. Joe (Marvel): 1-30
