Beauty - Maverick Matthews

My Covenant is Beauty. 

 I will Strive.  

 I will Fail Elegantly and also Without Grace.

 I will eat Chili made from Elk. 

I will drink French Wine.

 I will Creep around my Hot Tub Naked and with Bare Feet

Stinging from the piercing of Rocks Underfoot.

But in Ease of Movement and Without Shame. 

I will feel the Shock of the Cold on my Body as I lay down in the Snow.

I will listen to the Fire Crackling,

And smell the Woodsmoke 

And the Woman 

And the Child 

And the Dog 

and the Grace of the Oncoming Storm upon us.

The Wind mixes the scent of these things.  

There are others that don’t mater much in there too.

And we rock back and forth gently 

In this cabin together.

And We Listen to the Wind between the Pines,

As it comes across The Lake.

I feel the warmth of the Brandy in my Bones.
