• Philadelphia’s Chinatown celebrated its Mid-Autumn Festival on Saturday and hundreds flocked to 10th Street to celebrate the neighborhood and its culture — the same week Mayor Parker announced her support for a Sixers arena that impact studies found could threaten Chinatown's cultural fabric.  
• A live stunt show in South Philadelphia raised money to help the families of Philly’s finest.

• The city's 200-thousand district and charter school students have new representation on the Philly school board.

• Thanks to PECO’s Green Region Open Space Program, more than 400 municipalities and nonprofit groups across Southeastern PA have received over $3-million-dollars in grants. This has preserved, improved and expanded access to parks and other green spaces over the last 20 years.

• Pink, black and white balloons filled the night sky over North Philadelphia near Temple University Friday as hundreds gathered to honor the life of 13-year-old Alaysia Smith.

• Philadelphia police are looking for a man they say broke into a home in Mayfair earlier this week and assaulted a little girl while she was sleeping.

• On Friday, students from three schools came together with police officers in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood to celebrate International Day of Peace a day early.

• Students in Camden have a new resource to help them navigate their struggles with mental health.

• The owner of the shuttered Three Mile Island nuclear power plant said Friday that it plans to restart the reactor under a 20-year agreement that calls for tech giant Microsoft to buy the power to supply its data centers with carbon-free energy.

• Pennsylvania State Police troopers are asking for the public's help in finding the person responsible for a double homicide along the Blue Route in Delaware County a week ago. KYW Newsradio’s John McDevitt has more from Troop K in Media.

• Five years after it shut down, there are plans to restart one of the nuclear plants at Three Mile Island. KYW Newsradio's Mike DeNardo reports.

• Volunteer fire companies throughout the state of Pennsylvania are receiving millions in funds to help them serve their communities. A large portion of that funding will go to companies in the Philly region. KYW Newsradio’s Sunny Morgan has more.

• Blood spots are collected from every baby born in New Jersey and tested for diseases. Lawmakers say those samples have been used in criminal investigations without a warrant. • About 500 workers in the Bucks County Administration Building joined the picket line on Friday for a one-day strike because their union still does not have a contract after nearly a year of negotiations.
• Police are investigating the shooting death of a 13-year-old girl -- the youngest person to lose their life to gun violence in Philadelphia this year. 
• A jury has found Sesame Place in Langhorne, Bucks County is not liable in a federal discrimination case involving allegations that theme park character performers ignored kids because of the color of their skin.
• Government officials, community leaders and members of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society gathered in Malcolm X Park on Thursday to celebrate a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support planting more trees in Philadelphia.

• A Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to falsely telling police a fantasy football rival planned to commit mass shootings in Norway and Iowa.

• He died an officer but will be remembered as a sergeant. Jaime Roman - killed in the line of duty - was posthumously promoted to Sergeant ahead of his funeral service today at the Cathedral Basilica in Center City. 

• A 13-year-old is shot dead inside a home in North Philadelphia. It happened Wednesday night in the city’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. Now detectives are trying to figure out exactly what happened.
• Camden isn’t quite ready to throw in the towel on their arena proposal, despite the 76ers reaching an agreement to build in Center City. 
• SEPTA is planning to expand its use of new gates to try to stop fare jumpers.

• Fallen Philadelphia Police officer Jamie Rowan is being laid to rest. KYW Newsradio's Tim Jimenez was at the public viewing and reports from the Cathedral Basilica.
• Mayor Cherelle Parker announced that she backs the proposed Sixers Arena on Market Street. During her announcement Chinatown leaders and protesters gathered outside City Hall.
• There are new vending machines in Delaware County that don't dispense candy. They are stocked with personal hygiene products, Narcan, Covid tests and much more. 

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024 (morning edition):

• Law enforcement officers and members of the public on Wednesday paid their respects to a grieving family and said goodbye to a fallen Philadelphia police officer, 31-year-old Jaime Roman. A funeral service will take place later today at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Center City.
• Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker says she’s about to greenlight a downtown arena for the 76ers, over the protest of residents in nearby Chinatown. A few hundred people gathered outside City Hall after the announcement, vowing to take their fight to City Council.

• Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small and his wife, La’Quetta, have been indicted for allegedly beating their teenage daughter.

• As city leaders gathered Wednesday to tout the economic impact of Philadelphia International Airport on the region, an annual survey released on the same day ranked the airport dead last in customer satisfaction — again.
