• Six people, including two teens, were wounded during a violent two-hour stretch in Philadelphia early Wednesday morning.
• Parents in Deptford Township, New Jersey blasted school leaders Tuesday night over a since-rescinded policy that would have charged some families whose kids ride the school bus.
• Police at the Jersey Shore are searching for the people behind three swatting incidents in Avalon over the weekend.
• Full-time students at Bryn Mawr College will be able to ride SEPTA for free this year.  Bryn Mawr is the second area college to sign up for SEPTA’s UPass program.

• School officials in Deptford Township publicly spoke for the first time since a controversial decision over school busing was rescinded, which brought a lot of relief to parents ahead of the upcoming school year.
• Authorities have charged two men in connection with a shooting on a South Philly street filled with dog walkers and families. One woman was struck and a dog was killed.
• A Bucks County judge had harsh words for the West Rockhill parents of seven children who were severely neglected, as she sentenced each of them to at least eight years in state prison.
• Tuesday was the first move-in day for new students at Temple University. And this year, in addition to the incoming freshmen, Temple is making a new home for about 300 University of the Arts students who were displaced when their school abruptly closed last spring.

• Two men have been charged in connection with the shooting on a South Philly street filled with dog walkers and families, that wounded a woman and killed a dog.
• Philadelphia police are searching for a trio of men they say invaded a Germantown home, threatened the people inside and robbed them.
•  It's been tied to a pier rusting along the Delaware River in South Philadelphia for nearly 30 years, but probably not for much longer. A federal court judge has denied a deadline extension to keep the SS United States there until early December.
• A civil rights icon is immortalized with a plaque on the Atlantic City boardwalk, where she and others fought for racial integration at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.

• An illegal dirt bike collided with an SUV in Frankford Monday night, leaving one woman badly injured and another clinging to life.

• Two 24-year-olds convicted of what prosecutors called an “execution” on the Schuylkill River Trail last year were both sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
• Officials are working on a temporary fix for a draw bridge connecting Wildwood Crest with Cape May, which is stuck in the up position.

• During Day 1 of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, the Pennsylvania delegation got a surprise visit from vice presidential nominee Tim Walz at breakfast.
• Former President Donald Trump campaigned at a manufacturing company in York on Monday, and his running mate J.D. Vance held a separate event in North Philadelphia.
• A 16-year-old is dead and another remains critical after an early morning shooting in Philadelphia's Olney neighborhood.
• COVID cases are surging across the country, and even more cases are expected in the fall.

• As the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Chicago, the Republican party is focusing on the battleground state of Pennsylvania. Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance made a stop at a medical waste management company in North Philadelphia.
• A Philadelphia man accused of dragging a police officer 200 feet with his Tesla last summer has been sentenced and immediately paroled to house arrest.
• Two 24-year-olds convicted of what prosecutors called an “execution” on the Schuylkill River Trail last year were both sentenced to life in prison on Monday.
• Even though it didn’t make landfall at the Jersey Shore, Ernesto made it a busy weekend for rescue crews there.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024 (midday edition):

• There are some lingering issues at the airport today after yesterday’s severe storms led to 78 canceled flights and more than 400 delays in and out of Philly International. 
• Superintendent Tony Watlington said the district is making progress with improved attendance and higher graduation rates. However, with the majority of students not proficient on state tests, he knows there’s a long way to go.
• A popular park in Camden has a brand-new basketball court thanks to the 76ers.

The KYW Newsradio All-Local on Monday, Aug. 19, 2024 (morning edition):

• As part of a nationwide movement, a few hundred people in Philly joined other cities Sunday in what organizers called the “Not Another Bomb” rally.
• An airplane carrying more than five dozen people hit a vehicle before takeoff at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday, according to airport officials.
• Classes for 116,000 students in the Philadelphia School District begin one week from today. The superintendent says while test scores are too low, progress is being made. 
• There’s a new exhibit at the Pennsbury Manor using sound to dive into one artist’s perspective of his tribe’s history in the Philadelphia region. Part of that exhibit came to Penn Treaty Park over the weekend.

• A large rally marched through Center City Sunday, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, as well as an arms embargo.

• Lots of hometown support for Little Leaguers from Council Rock Newtown in Sunday's must-win game at the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

• A wild police chase in Gloucester City, New Jersey ended on Saturday night left two children critically injured.  

• Philadelphia election officials have raised the rate to rent space for polling places, in hopes of finding more spots for in-person voting. A special pitch is being made to city barbershops.

• The Philly school district has launched new communications software designed to answer questions from parents and the public.

• A group of Philly Barbers is hooking kids up with free haircuts to start the school year off right.
