  • Philadelphia City Hall briefly evacuated after suspicious package found
    The KYW Newsradio All Local on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026 (evening edition):
    Philadelphia city council’s first session in three months got off to an exciting start, with an abrupt interruption after authorities found a suspicious bag and evacuated City Hall.
    The Philadelphia Sheriff's Office says a deputy was attacked by a dog while serving an arrest warrant in Northeast Philadelphia this morning. According to officials, it happened around 8am along Colony Drive near Holme Avenue in the city's Holme Circle neighborhood. The dog bit the deputy several times in the leg. The Sheriff's office says the deputy discharged his firearm at the dog. He is being treated at an area hospital. His condition is not being disclosed. We also don't know if the dog was wounded or killed in the incident. Two men and a woman were arrested on warrants from Delaware and Bucks counties.
    The Glenside man accused of intentionally hitting a 22-year-old on bike with his SUV in July is ordered to stand trial on charges including attempted murder.
    South Jersey power broker George Norcross is suing the Philadelphia Inquirer and an editor for 100-million dollars.
    SEPTA and the city are considering a plan that would restore a historic but vacant rail station in Roxborough.

    • The warning period is officially over, and drivers will start getting tickets for parking in the newest smart loading zones in Center City.
    • Philadelphia City Council begins its fall session Thursday after a summer recess. New city trash contracts have to be approved this session, but other issues are vying for attention. 
    • Apple picking season is here, but area orchards aren’t yielding the fall apple harvest we’re used to, due to a late spring frost that killed many crops in our region. Now orchards are telling customers to pick them while they can.
    • Thursday is the first session of a new, free skating and hockey clinic from the Gaudreau family.
