Join me, Alison Elizabeth as we read out of Genesis 15:1 which says "1 After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward. ” 

"When the Lord speaks, He speaks, and when He speaks over us, He speaks over us. The promise He gave Abraham is a promise we can hold for ourselves. He is a shield for his people, He is our reward.

 

I am in the middle of rewatching the MCU movies, and last week I watched Capitan America Civil War. He picked up his vibranium steel shield and anything that came his way was blocked by that shield.

 

I like to imagine God is that very shield for us. Anything the enemy throws our way is blocked by His grace. But how many of us know Captain America’s shield doesn’t work unless he picked it up and uses it. In the same way we must use Him. We have to use the word of God, we have to use prayer, we have to pick up His promises and use them to shield us from the enemy. "
