Two fires are burning in this passage from Mark 9. Which will you experience? Let's heed the words of Jesus, of whom John said in the Revelation,

"His eyes were as a flame of fire . . . ." (Rev. 19:12).

Humility is the basis of Christianity.  Yet, Jesus had to deal with the attitude raised by His disciples when they asked, "Who should be the greatest?"

Christ gives them a lesson about servant-leadership that speaks to all of us today.

This is the first part of a message that deals with Joshua, now an old man, teaching Israel how they must make it on their own when he is gone.

God's work advances one person at a time, handing off the truth to another person.  Christianity is always just one generation away from extinction!

Here is the disciples' first attempt to minister to a great need on their own.  They've been used to having Jesus around, and now they are unable to cast out a demon.  What was the problem?  Jesus said it was a lack of faith!  He is trying to prepare them to minister after He is gone back to heaven.  We can learn much from this passage that will help us walk and minister in faith as well.

The life or church that is growing and expanding is always in transition.  But we all know that change hurts!  It is often difficult.  In this passage from the book of Joshua we learn some great principles for dealing with the transitions in life.

After Israel settled in the Promised Land, six cities of refuge were set up for those guilty of involuntary manslaughter.  These cities are a wonderful type of Jesus Christ, who is the refuge for every guilty soul.  He is the One we run to!
