WARNING - Any activity which constricts or blocks a person’s air or blood flow comes with risk, and can never be 100 percent safe. There’s always a chance of something going wrong, and anyone who takes part in this kind of play needs to be aware of this prior to engaging. DO NOT try anything involving breath play without being aware of the risks involved. This is not something to be done lightly, it requires extensive knowledge of human anatomy and significant self-control to even consider the prospect. There are ways to mitigate some of this risk and keep people safer - but it’s important to state right up front that it’s never zero risk.
This episode is intended to help people understand the risks involved in breath play, as well as understand some common harm-minimization techniques/strategies if you do decide to engage in this type of play.
Pink Kink Podcast is not encouraging this type of play. The discussion and advice provided are for educational and harm-minimization purposes only.
Breath play and choking have become very popular in mainstream media. Even within the kink community, a hand around the throat has become symbolic with Domination and submission. But breath play is probably one of the most dangerous kinks, you are literally controlling a person's ability to breath. We felt it important to talk about the risks involved in such a dangerous activity, so we brought in an expert on the subject.

We often hear in the kink lifestyle that submission is a gift. But is it? You can't take a gift back but you can rescind your submission. And if submission is a gift, then what about dominance? Should you earn someone's submission? Should you earn their dominance? We have a very lively discussion answering these questions and more.

When we think of kink including floggers, wax play, or restraints, we generally don’t include disabled people in that image. And why don't we? Being disabled shouldn't cut you out of the kink scene. For many people with disabilities, BDSM is just one facet of life in which they have learned to make adjustments so that they can enjoy the lifestyle. Kink can be a powerful tool for managing their chronic pain. We speak to two amazing kinksters who identify as disabled. They told us what kink can bring to the disabled experience (and visa versa), about being disabled in BDSM spaces like play parties or dungeons, and some of the complications disabilities can create in the kink world.

Your kink is not my kink and that's okay. It's the principal we in the kink community are supposed to live by. But do we actually or do we found ourselves judging instead? And what about people who use YKINMKATOK to try to justify abuse? It's never simple when it comes to kink and judgement.

Gatekeeping in kink is defined as "restricting or limiting access to the lifestyle or community or invalidating someone's actions or feelings, usually based on personal bias and prejudice.” An example would be saying you can't be a dominant if you are female or you can't be a rope bunny if you are overweight. People who decide that their way to kink is the only way to kink are bad for the community. It invalidates people's lived experiences and it takes away people’s right to decide for themselves. Gatekeeping does nothing but hurt communities, both members and outsiders. It’s an elitist practice that more people should be concerned and speaking out about.

Some kinks are viewed as forbidden by society’s standards and therefore are rarely talked about openly. Some are less taboo then they were in the past and some are more taboo then ever. But these kinks exist and so we are going to talk about them. What are they? Is it okay to object to them? Should we just accept that we may see these kinks in our public dungeons? There is so much to talk about so this will be a longer episode than usual.
