This week Cliff opens a fruity surprise: Lindemans lambic pours and the studio instantly smells like a dessert counter. We use that sweetness as an excuse to count down the Top 10 fruits sold worldwide (bananas, watermelons, apples and the usual suspects), argue about whether sales should be measured by weight or value, and debate the best ways to pair fruit-forward beers with food — from M&S Beef Wellington to spicy Thai street food. Along the way we test a couple of Lindemans variants, consider the merits of a cheeky shandy (Phoenix Panaché makes an appearance) and wonder whether fruit beer is legitimately a dessert or just a very polite starter.
It’s the festive end-of-term, so the episode is punctuated with school concert memories, exhausted music teachers, and nostalgic takes on “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” — plus the confessions and resolutions only revealed after the last mince pie. We take a detour into grocery-store culture (Tesco vs M&S, Charlie Bigham vs supermarket ready meals), the controversy of privatised water versus public drinking water, and an odd-but-honest segment on juicers, watermelon hydration and why everyone’s aunt owns one.
Tech and pop collide mid-episode as we tackle AI music (Suno, Udio), label power (Warner Music) and whether algorithms could ever replace Taylor Swift’s songwriting — spoiler: not unless they learn to tell dad jokes. There’s also streaming-era nostalgia (X Factor/BGT vs Spotify), a few groan-worthy Little Timmy jokes, and a silly “Hey there Porsche” riff that somehow becomes an earworm. The result is half food show, half rant, and entirely Christmassy: fizzy, tart, and full of opinions. Pour yourself something fruity and join us — and if you’ve got a Lindemans flavour or fruit-beer pairing we should try, DM us and we’ll pop it on the tasting list.

Episode 11 is Pete’s round — he brings Chang (ThaiBev’s famous lager) and we use it as fuel to rank the Top 10 TV shows of the last 25 years. Expect spirited debate on heavy-hitters (Breaking Bad, The Wire, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Succession), nostalgia trips (from Friends to Doctor Who), and detours into local memories (Bradford, Everton, the 1996 Manchester Arndale bombing) and pop-culture oddities (Comic Relief, the MP3 player era, and Star Trek/Doctor Who throwdowns). We also riff on Thailand beer culture (Chang, Singha, Leo), Guinness trivia, and “who would win” matchups that inevitably derail the conversation. Honest, opinionated and full of laughs — bring your own beer. Please get in touch with Pints of View (beer related or not):

Episode 10 pours Goose Island IPA (Cliff’s round) and launches us into a chaotic, affectionate tour of the world’s top tourist attractions. We attempt a Top 10 — featuring Niagara Falls, the Eiffel Tower, Colosseum, Great Wall of China, Statue of Liberty, Stonehenge, Vatican City / St Peter’s, Sagrada Familia, Times Square and the Acropolis — then wander off into the best and worst travel moments: stag dos in Blackpool, school parents’ evenings that run late, Prague layovers, Windsor Castle queues, Madame Tussauds and supermarket oddities (Asda vs Morrisons). Between sightseeing tips we debate space mysteries (the “Wow!” signal), lunar landing, pop-culture pilgrimages (Star Wars, Blue Peter, Thunderbirds), Who would win? pitches Captain Jean Luc Picard against Doctor Who, and the comfort of a reliable IPA. No travel guide, lots of opinions — and a few surprisingly good first-hand tips.
If you enjoyed this globe-trotting mess, subscribe, leave a review and nominate a landmark for our next Top 10 — or send a beer suggestion and we’ll debate it on-air. Got a ridiculous “who would win” matchup? DM us — we love the chaos.

Episode 9 pours Bia Saigon while Cliff and Pete attempt to rank music history’s giants. We run a noisy Top 10 conversation — from The Beatles and Queen to Drake, Eminem and Taylor Swift — and explain why sales, streaming and fandom make that list messy. Alongside the music hall of fame we cover: the flooding in Vietnam, Saigon’s beer scene, Australia’s under-16s social-media ban debate (TikTok vs Facebook), classroom device control, grooming & parental responsibility, online gaming nostalgia (Gameboy!), and random delights like the Guinness Book of Records, Whoopee cushions, Hovis bread, Record Breakers and Roy Castle. Plus: cushiest jobs, Mount Everest, a “Katniss vs Legolas” who-would-win, and a Dvořák curveball. It’s wide, it’s loud, and it’s slightly argumentative — just how we like it.

Cliff strolls in with Kirin Ichiban, and the boys offer honest reviews on one of Japan's finest beers. Pete looks ahead to a bowl of Vietnamese pho, and we argue Top 10 Oscars, Tolkien (well, Cliff does) and Tesla. A relaxed, wide-ranging chat about films, beers (and whether cans are better than bottles), zoos, videogames and everything in between. Pour a drink and join us.
Kirin Ichiban (featured by Cliff) — light, crisp, malt-forward lager; great example of rice-influenced Japanese brewing. We taste, compare bottled vs canned Ichiban and riff on other Asian & global lagers (Asahi, Sapporo, Qingdao, Estrella Damm).
Intro & Cliff’s beer drop — Cliff reveals Kirin Ichiban and why he picked it. Bottled vs canned debate.
Top 10: most Academy Awards — a rollicking run-through of Oscar-heavy films we love: Lord of the Rings (Fellowship / Return of the King), Gone with the Wind, Titanic, West Side Story, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, The Last Emperor, The English Patient, Slumdog Millionaire, Gigi — and how awards shape what we watch.
Classic cinema deep-dips — chats on The Mummy, El Cid, Charlton Heston, Kristin Scott Thomas, Ralph Fiennes, Sir Ben Kingsley, Frank Sinatra*, and From Here to Eternity.
Directors & movies we can’t stop quoting — Danny Boyle, Miloš Forman, Gandhi and the stories behind Puyi and The Last Emperor.
Beer geography & history — rice beer, German brewers, Qingdao, Yokohama’s drinking culture, Estrella Damm, Asahi, Sapporo, Kirin; plus a note on “Alco beer” and the lighter / non-alcoholic trend.
Zoos, Safari Parks & conservation — Knowsley Safari Park, safari parks vs zoos, and conservation projects worth supporting.
Books & authors — a nerdy detour covering J.R.R. Tolkien, G.R.R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson and The Stormlight Archive (spoiler-free).
Gaming corner — quick takes on Red Dead Redemption, Ghost of Tsushima, Assassin’s Creed.
Odds & ends — Austin Powers, squirrels (yes, really), Zohran Mamdani, Elon Musk, Trump, FM 26, Leeds United — plus random riffs and personal stories.
First-time listener? Start at Cliff’s beer drop (around the top) to get the flavour of the episode.
Want film chat only? Skip to the Oscars / classic cinema segment.

In episode 6 of "Pints of View", Cliff strides into the studio with a clutch of bottles and proudly presents a cold Duvel for Pete to quaff live. What starts as a tasting quickly explodes into a Friday-night free-for-all: a Top 10 sitcom debate (almost all American), Belgian-beer nerding (yeast, glassware, pouring technique), footy nostalgia, absurd hypothetical battles, and a new recurring gag about his Cliff's coccyx). Expect laughter, sidetracks, and one excellent beer.
What we cover (order of play)
Opening quaff: Cliff hands Pete a Duvel — the ceremonial pour, the first sniff, first sip, and immediate reactions.
Featured beer deep-dive: Duvel basics, tasting notes, the Duvel tulip glass, how yeast defines Belgian beers.
Top 10 Sitcoms of All Time (almost all American): hosts defend their lists, shout-outs, and “which sitcom would survive a Duvel-fuelled debate?”
Friday-night comedy & Channel 4 flashbacks — UK vs US comedy culture.
Footy memory lane: Jay-Jay Okocha, David O’Leary, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Smith, Burnden Park → Reebok Stadium, and Geoff Boycott’s cameo rant.
Weird tangents that somehow make sense: Louvre Heist, Maria Walewska, Napoleon, and the history detour nobody expected.
Game time: Monty Hall problem, “Who Would Win?”, Ned Stark vs Boromir (Sean Bean appreciation), and comparing Game of Thrones vs Lord of the Rings.
Odds & sods: ChatGPT lottery winners, Cliff’s coccyx (again), and a rapid-fire “best laugh” round featuring clips/lines from the sitcoms.
Sign-off & Duvel encore.
Style: Belgian Strong Pale Ale
ABV: ~8.5%
Look: Pale-golden, brilliant, with a long-lasting white head when poured in the proper Duvel tulip glass.
Aroma: Citrus peel, green apple/pear, light floral esters, with subtle spicy phenolics from Belgian yeast.
Taste: Clean, slightly fruity esters up front, spicy/peppery Belgian yeast character, balanced hop bitterness, very dry finish. Alcohol is present but well integrated.
Mouthfeel: Spritzy carbonation that lifts flavors and refreshes the palate.
Pairings: Salted crisps, strong cheese, fish and chips, spicy small plates — perfect for a comedy night.
Serving tip: Use the Duvel tulip glass, pour to form a generous head (tilt then straighten), serve cool (not icy).

Pete and Cliff crack open a crisp rice lager — Orion: Okinawa’s Craft — then take a rip-roaring ride through a Top 10 of modern inventions (courtesy of a rather dubious list from Ohio State University). Along the way they detour through heists at the Louvre, the Elgin Marbles vs British Museum row, Robin of Sherwood nostalgia TV, Torvill & Dean, and (naturally) Sean Bean's casting as the new Sheriff of Nottingham. Expect pub philosophy, cultural takes, and the odd scandal mention (ahem, Epstein).
Notes on Orion: light, clean, slightly sweet rice character; refreshing finish — perfect for long chats.
Pairing: sushi, tempura, or a crisply fried chips (if you’re feeling British).
Here's an alternative Top 10 inventions - only some of which are featured in the show. are the ten we landed on.
Printing press (Gutenberg) — the original information shockwave.
Light bulb (practical electric lighting) — extended waking hours, changed cities.
Internal combustion engine — cars, tractors, and the modern commute.
Airplane (Wright brothers / powered flight) — shrank the world.
Penicillin (antibiotics) — arguably the biggest public-health leap.
MP3 / digital audio — music portability and the reshaping of culture.
Mechanised earth-moving (JCB / heavy machinery) — built the modern landscape.
Crop rotation & modern agriculture improvements — feeding billions.
Spaceflight / rocketry (NASA-era advances) — satellites, GPS and beyond.
The fast-food model (Big Mac as cultural shorthand) — industrialised convenience with huge social impact.
(Yes, we argued about what counts as an “invention” — Cliff wanted to include “the queue.”)
Orion tasting; Okinawa and why rice lagers taste different.
Each invention covered with historical flavour, modern impact, and one controversial shout-out.
The Louvre heist & the enduring pull of the Mona Lisa.
The British Museum vs Elgin Marbles debate and how national collections make headlines.
A breezy Tour of London: pubs, plaques and photo ops.
Torvill & Dean, Dancing on Ice riffs, and why certain TV moments stick.
Robin Hood chat — from folklore to Robin of Sherwood (Michael Praed shout-out).
Sean Connery tribute: Bond-era charisma and legacy.
Quick call-out to Manor Lords fans and world-building obsessions.
Politics and headlines we touched on: Trump, Prince Andrew, the Epstein files — treated as news topics with caution and no sensationalising.
“Cliff’s perfect holiday”: Japan, rice beer sampling and scenic walks.

Pete and Cliff experience their first sips of Franziskaner Weissbier (Munich) and sprint through a very German-themed episode: a Top 10 of famous (and infamous) Germans, pub philosophy about doom-prepping and AI, football gossip (Leeds, Bolton and more), and cultural detours from Gutenberg to Beethoven. Expect laughs, a few heated takes, and one Sean Bean impersonation too many.
Leeds United memories, Peter Ridsdale flashbacks and how transfers shaped the club.
Bolton Wanderers, Michael Ricketts, and the old-school tales.
Quick shout-outs to David O’Leary, Lucas Radebe, Sam Allardyce, Jay-Jay Okocha, Gary Speed, and Youri Djorkaeff — we relived moments and controversial signings.
AI, AGI, ASI — a muddled but entertaining explainer: what they mean and whether Cliff thinks AI will steal his job (Pete: “It already has.”)
Doom prepping / Doomsday conversation — practical prep vs panic.
A brief detour into Mark Zuckerberg as a symbol of social media’s rise.
Cumbria and the Lakes.
Sean Bean cameo: the legend of death scenes and local pride.
Pop-culture spins: Patrick Stewart (Star power), Epstein files, and Peacemaker (Cliff recommends the show).
Quick Elder Scrolls / Skyrim love-in, and why Football Manager is secretly a life-simulator for many of us.
