Comics need great art. Life is too short to read good stories that are destroyed by bad or even mediocre art.
That's part of the reason I moved to European comics.
Learning French: I'm using DuoLingo for learning French. I recently hit day 786. Je pense que je suis un cheval!

There is no singular alternative to Comixology. There is, however, an alternative for European albums. It's Izneo.com and you should sign up for it today. They have a subscription plan and you can even buy albums through their app.
I did a thorough write-up of Izneo recently.

I'm sure several of you think the title of this podcast should be "Defunding Comixology," because you think it's what Amazon has done.
I'm taking the opposite opinion on this one. Amazon is hurting Comixology in the short term for a long term benefit. They are providing focus, but the transition will be a rough one.
We're already seeing things get better, in fact, and I'm betting things will move pretty fast from here.

The Merge happened this week. It's a mess. I outline my first thoughts on it in this podcast.
If you're looking for the new Comixology storefront on Amazon, good luck.
Or, use Comixology.com and let them reroute you.

Belgium has a new passport that features Belgian comic characters like Largo Winch, Lucky Luke, Tintin, and the Smurfs. Want!
This is my excuse to reach for an honorary Belgian citizenship without the hassle of learning a new language or, you know, actually moving to the country. I think I found an angle on this impossible mission. I'll explain it in this podcast.
I wrote about this goal on the website a couple weeks ago.

I received a comment recently that made fun of the way I pronounced a Belgian creators' name. It made me think about pronunciations. For as hard as I try to get it right, I'm always fighting my natural American accent instincts...
One quick correction to this episode: The hockey player's name I was thinking of was Mark Messier. It's not the same as Jean-Claude Mézières. But it's close!

The Beatles had a 12 month period in the mid-1960s where they released four studio albums.
Is there a similar comics version of that kind of productivity? Ok, sure, probably Jack Kirby with or without Stan Lee. But keeping with the theme of this podcast, who comes to mind?
Easy -- Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo in the mid-1960s when they released 3 books in the same calendar year, and 5 in the span of two years.
In this podcast, I'll run down the list for you.
I also mentioned and recommended Rick Beato's YouTube channel if you're looking for smart analysis of music on-line.
The Beatles Documentary, "Get Back," is streaming on Disney Plus.
My reviews of the books from that fateful year:

Happy International Podcast Day!
We celebrate a little bit of PipelineComics.com's recent five year anniversary with a State of the Union address that takes a brief tangent into the kind of job descriptions you see for writers at comic book news websites. (Too much writing.)
Also, some hints and teases for things to come, and a little about the future of this podcast.
