Raoul Cauvin:

Over the weekend, Raoul Cauvin, veteran Belgian comics writer, announced that his cancer is bad enough that the doctor says he doesn't have much longer to live.

Disney+ has a new documentary series called "Marvel 616." It's a cute piece of Marvel brand building, and caused a bit of a stir over the episode titled "Marvel Method." I think a lot of that internet furor was misguided. This podcast is going to be my point of view on where this "documentary" fails, and what it really reveals that everyone else overlooked.

Marvel characters are the stars of the new season of Fortnite, a video game claiming 350 million players.

Fortnite characters are making appearances on Marvel comic book covers, as well as a storyline in Thor.

I think Marvel needs to be hyper aggressive with this. It's the marketing opportunity of a lifetime. And they're choosing to lead with -- variant covers?!? This could be the biggest mistake the company's ever made. And I remember Daredevil's armor....

Sean Phillips and Ed Brubaker have a new project that will be released as a series of standalone graphic novels. The format and intent of the "Reckless" series reminds me a bit of the European album tradition, even if the physical format isn't quite so large.

Other professionals are considering OGNs now, too. The only growth in comics is in the book market for younger readers, which is filled with stand-alone books.

We're moving closer to the European model, folks....
