Pipestone Country Club will present a three-person scramble on Saturday, Aug. 1. Registration will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start. A club official has reported 19 teams have signed up; so there are openings. However, the registration deadline has been set for Thursday, July 30. A 3-on-3 basketball tournament is slated for Saturday, Aug. 1. Registration is set for 9 a.m., with games to follow at 10 a.m. Tournament organizer Chris Gorter said because of the expected weather, games most likely will take place in Harmon Park. Autumn LaBrune is the 2026 Pipestone County 4-H summer intern. LaBrune is the daughter of Adam and Gretchen LaBrune and a Russell Tyler Ruthton graduate. Next month she’ll begin her sophomore year at the South Dakota School of Mines where she’s studying civil engineering. She hopes to work in water resource. LaBrune said she applied for the internship because she’s been very involved in 4-H over the years and wanted to see what it would be like to be on the other side of the program. Dahl Motors conducted its third annual car show at the “dealership of the crossroads” at United States Highway 75 and State Highways 23 and 30 in Pipestone. Owner/CEO Scott Dahl reported 51 entries for the three-hour event. The overall winner was this 1961 Chevrolet Corvette Retromod owned by Jim and Janet Voges of rural Slayton. ST. CLOUD — When it was announced St. Cloud State University had hired Shane Bouman as new head softball coach, fans scurried to circle their 2027 calendars. Bouman announced during an interview with the Pipestone County Star that St. Cloud State will play Southwest Minnesota State University at Marshall in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday, April 17. MOORHEAD — Talented Southwest Minnesota Christian/Edgerton runner Hannah Masselink will continue competing on the collegiate level. This past spring, Masselink announced her plans to join both the cross country and track and field programs at Concordia Moorhead. “I loved the atmosphere of the teams,” Masselink said in an email to the Pipestone County Star. “Everyone was so inviting, and genuinely wanted to get to know me.” Masselink said she’s looking forward to seeing “how fast I can get” at the next level. The Pipestone County Star was present for the Southwest Minnesota Shootout basketball showcase. This event took place over two days on Wednesday-Thursday, July 15-16. Luverne High School served as the site, with four courts going at once. Ninety-six varsity and junior varsity teams participated.
