HOLLAND — The Holland Community Foundation will present a kickball tournament during the Holland Days festival. The event will take place on Friday and Saturday, July 24-25. The Pipestone Parks and Recreation Department conducted its annual trip to see the Minnesota Twins play on Thursday, July 9 versus American League Central Division foe, the Cleveland Guardians, at Target Field in Minneapolis. Forty-seven children signed up along with seven chaperones boarded a motorcoach for the game at about 6:30 a.m., returning that evening. The Twins scored single runs in both the fifth and seventh innings; however, it wasn’t enough as the Guardians prevailed 5-2. JASPER — There will be plenty of sports-related events during Quartziter Days set for this weekend. There will be a classic car cruise-in and show from 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 17. During the public comments portion of the Pipestone City Council meeting of July 6, the condition of the JBS Sportsplex soccer fields was again brought to the attention of the council. The Pipestone Planning Commission, during its June 10 meeting, recommended that the Pipestone City Council approve a conditional use permit allowing the Southwest Minnesota Opportunity Council (SMOC) to build a Head Start facility on property it owns at the corner of North Hiawatha Avenue and 11th Street Northeast.
