  • HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS: Arrows facing numbers crunch again

The Pipestone Area Schools’ boys tennis team opens the 2026 regular season at home versus Milbank on Thursday, April 16. In Milbank, the Arrows will face a stern test straight away since the Bulldogs are considered one of the better teams in South Dakota. Matches will begin at 4 p.m. at the PAS Courts. Weather has limited outdoor practice time, another concern. Thankfully for PAS, there are still several more days to hone those skills. As has typically been the case in recent years, PAS lacks numbers. Junior Brady Dunn, who teamed up with Makhi Winter during the 2025 campaign...

  • HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: Arrow boys enjoy opening-day success

In his first match as Pipestone Area Schools head boys’ golf coach, McCaden Biever was ultimately triumphant. The Arrows needed just 177 strokes to beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton by 11 shots on Monday, March 30 at Pipestone Country Club. Fresh off its state Class A boys basketball championship two days earlier, Hills-Beaver Creek was a distant third (193). “It’s very fulfilling,” Biever said. “The boys have put in the time, and it paid off very quickly. It’s awesome to have a group of guys that are working hard and showing they can win.” After an errant first shot, senior Matthew DeBates bounced...

  • HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Parsons, LCWM sweep Pipestone

LAKE CRYSTAL — The Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial softball team finished as consolation runner-up in Minnesota State High School League’s Class AA last year. So Pipestone Area Schools knew it would be a tall task to compete with the Knights. LCWM swept PAS in the season-opening doubleheader for both schools, blanking the Arrows in Game One, 7-0, and taking Game Two, 11-6. Jadyn Kor and Avery Reinhard split time inside the circle during Game One. Reinhard fared better, allowing just one hit in three innings while recording one strikeout. The Arrow defense didn’t help matters much with three errors. Northwestern College...

  • HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Knights 'walk' way to victory

RUTHTON — Now this was a shrewd scheduling move. Both the Pipestone Area Schools and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton baseball teams agreed to move up their game to Monday, March 30 to take advantage of the mild and windy conditions. The Knights dispatched the Arrows, 11-1, in a game reduced to five innings due to the state-mandated mercy rule. “The guys were itching to play a game,” RTR head coach Danny Moffitt said. Moffitt said he wanted to see how the Knights would fare both hitting and fielding. RTR looked very much like the team that was the 2025 Class A consolation champion....
